Actually, that depends on your county.  Last time I served in Federal court, it was two days or one trial, and Montgomery County it's one day or one trial.

Could be worse.  My wife was on a Federal Grand jury -- 1st week of every month for an entire year and she was only notified the night before as to whether she had to go every day of each week.  However, she was still able to be excused for one week with a several months in advance request.

My dad was on a Grand Jury with an extended term. He enjoyed the experience.

I was on a federal jury a few years back. Luckily for me the whole trial only lasted about a week. I thought the experience was interesting, nothing like TV court rooms.

I had my jury duty postponed due to previous plans. I'd guess the original poster wouldn't have any problem putting off his service.

It's your duty as a citizen. I'd just say, go. There will be an October York event next year. I got word back in August (despite requesting the vacation days in January) that Oct 17-18 "ain't happen-in".  Fortunately I hadn't booked a room yet.

Sometimes schedules can, will, and do change on a whim.

I got summoned every 3 years for almost 20 years.  In Silicon Valley you are oncall for a week and you call in the night before every day that week to see if you have to go in.  Had to go in 3 times.  Told the court I understand jury nullification and if selected would do as my conscience demanded not the law.  Got excused all three times.

Every case was child something related and I remember the San Bernardino witch hunts of the 1980s.

I'll make you feel better......Jury duty in my county is FOUR MONTHS!!! Now I live in a rural area....and not a lot of cases go to jury trail...but talk about altering your life!!!  I got called for duty after just being in the hospital for weeks with IV antibiotics took major pleading to get me out.....should have gone with IV hooked up.

Iagree with Pennsy. If you need a delay that's OK BUT it is a duty as a citizen.

When I was summoned and was picked on a drug case I was glad I did it. Turns out the creep had been dealing drugs to kids had been cught before already had a felony conviction.

I somehow got elected as head of the jury. My obstacles were the liberal soccer mom's who felt sorry for the guy and wanted to let him off!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It took a whole day to review all the evidence and it was airtight and no doubts, finally got him convicted and he was sent to jail. The soccer Mom'shad to be convinced you don't want these people in your neighborhood

Of all the crummy days to be selected!  I wonder if showing my York Badge is proof enough of prior plans?  I just completed the online juror registration form as I can't neglect my civic duty but I sure hope I don't get selected.   Anyone else have to miss York for something like this?

I currently work for the County of Los Angeles, so they pay unlimited for jury duty and every other County knows that, so I get called every year. I got lucky this year because I'm on a critical project involving a Court settlement so I got excused.

Conflicting pre-arranged trips, vacations, and certain professional obligations will usually get you excused, but the best bet would be to start out requesting a postponement for a couple of weeks. Sounds like you've already spent the money registering (wouldn't tell them it's a train show) and obtaining accommodations (unless you actually live nearby) so that works for you. The key is they don't want ticked off or distracted jurors.
