I have booked a trip to Omaha, C. Bluffs May 14-18, Looking for other sites to see. I plan on heading to Ashland and the Stratigic Air Command Museum one day. Will stop by the UP museum too.

Are there any shortlines/regionals near the Omaha area. I have been to Omaha years ago, walking the downtown area and shooting trains near the Amtrak stop. What times would the Iowa Intersate trains generally run? I would like to shoot some of thier power.
I will have a car this time and will make a one day long railfan trip. So, any highlights would be appreciated.

Any hobby shops or train displays I could venture by and see?

Thanks,

 Dan

Dan,  In Lincoln we have many areas to catch BNSF and KC coal drags and freight trains.  For Hobby shops their is Grand Central LTD on the NE side of Lincoln.  Rick is mostley O gauge.  If you do want to look at a layout you can check out the LCN&J lines in our basement. Its not finished and is only 6 by 11 foot.  In Gretna at the I-80 exit(between Lincoln and Omaha by ashland) the Ne/ Iowa RR have a club with layouts open every Saturday and free to the public. There are train spotting areas all over the state.  If you want to contact me for any other questions or info me my E-mail is in my profile.  Nick

I like visiting the Durham museum located in the old Burlington station downtown.  In the concourse, they have a gift shop and have various living history exhibits centering on arrivals and departures during the WWII era.  On the lower level, there are O Gauge model train displays and several Union Pacific passenger cars you can tour through.

Thanks for all the information.

When I was there last time, I did not go to the Durham Museum. I thought it was more  fine art", so I may hit it up this time. Is it not in the UP depot? I did a walk around the old CB&Q depot across the tracks when I was there last time, have they done anything with it? I hope to get by the UP Harriman dispating center while there for a look see.
