In addition to my earlier post please know that I want to add Ross switches to my layout along with Lionel tubular switches. I will be running the line Iionel switches at around 18 volts. Will there be any issues running the Ross TINPLATE 072  switches along with the Lionel at 18 volts?. Also do you think there will be any other problems relative to a direct replacement of a Lionel  072 switch with Ross tin plate 072 switch  on the same layout.?

Much thanks, Jerry

I would run the Ross Custom switches at about 12 to 14 volts first to see what they do. A higher voltage(then 15 volts) with the switch motors that Ross uses may burn the motors out quickly. Ross comes with the DZ-1000 or DZ-2500 switch motor. The DZ-1000 has a small motor that looks like an Aurora H.O. car motor from around 1967.

I don't think 18 VAC will hurt the Ross switch motors at all. I run them at 16 VAC and they work just fine. I never took a voltage reading at the motors but I bet there is possibly one or two volt line loss over twenty feet of 24 gauge wire.

But, I have been wrong before so give Ross a call on Monday and ask them. It's better safe then sorry.
