Here are the color tinting on my Home Depot canisters. This should be of help if anyone wants to match tinplate colors. There are several that became illegible because the top got wet in clean-up.

It is a semi-gloss enamel.

It is shiny, if you are buying a quart size you can get a full gloss paint. I bought a gloss quart in the Lionel Orange and didn’t see much if any difference. The Behr paint at Home Depot is durable and I applied it with an airbrush. I did thin it slightly with water. These sample sizes which is more than enough for any project are only $5.00. You can also gloss coat it when it drys.

If you are going to apply decals high gloss is the way to go. Decals will adhere better to high gloss then you apply a clear top coat which seals the decal and hides the edges in whatever gloss~flat finish you want.          j
