I recently took a scrap trolley apart, for the nylon bushing for the armature. I had to use a small drill bit to fit through the small hole under the bushing. I found a mushroom shaped spacer, which was supposedly mounted in the hole, and acted as a stop for the downward motion of the armature. This spacer, for want of a better name, is made of the same material as the bushing. I looked in my Greenberg repair manual, nothing shows. Thanks in advance!

The original Postwar Lionel part number was 41-8 thrust bearing.

The current Lionel part number is 610-8444-008.

The part in question is a small plastic button with a stem that presses into a hole in the frame at the bottom of the chassis casting. I do not know whether the parts are 100% interchangeable. Modern Era Lionel has modified some parts.

If you look carefully, the pin is visible on the underside of the casting (at least for most of the chassis that use it), and can be pushed out.
Train Tender has them on his list (41-8). They are inexpensive, I keep a few on hand.
