Patrick's Trains just offered four waffle sided boxcars. As is often the case, l wonder if these cars existed in my modeled period, 1940, or if they came later, well into the diesel era? An assigned year of first introduction on the model's box would be nice, for all rolling stock of any scale. Even some steam engines were built after that date and are not "appropriate" for an accurately modeled period.

Well, l got this answered fast! A previous posting of these cars offered by MTH states the first waffle side cars were delivered to the Southern in 1974, far beyond my steam era. But, still, many more models need period dating.
I believe the first waffle sided boxcars were introduced by Pullman Standard in 1974. ACF also started producing them around this time as well.
And dont forget that conspicuity striping on Tank Cars didn't happen until 2005.
