As I am pouring what train funds I have into the trains themselves right now, I lack funds for bench work wood other than what I have laying around here. I have the left over wood from replacing the transom in my 1968 Starcraft Falcon alum. boat. Nice, marine grade 3/4 thick plywood. And when finished with Spar Varnish, has a really pretty color. I have a nicely rounded piece, 30" wide by 48" long. Obviously I would have to use 0-27 track. The wood has nicely rounded ends. Need to figure out a nice stand for it. I want it to look furniture grade and not cobbled together. I thought about some turned wood posts from Lowes tied together with 1x4's to make a stand. Kind of a tall coffee table I guess for lack of a better description. I am torn on getting one of the beautiful Lionel Albert Hall sets, but that would require a much larger layout to run. OR, I could spend the funds on some Hornby tinplate 2 axle LMS coaches and freight wagons to pull with my 2 clockwork LMS engines. Would love a depot of some sort, but the only one I find that I like is Lionel. Would love a more UK style depot but the ones I find are very simple Hornby ones that lack lighting or any other niceties. I am thinking of using 3 rail track, since I have that already. The 2 rail stuff I have is much larger diameter, needing a 4'x4' space for a circle. Need a circle of Hornby 2 rail that is half that. Pics of the wood I have coming in a few min Mike

Here is the wood top I am thinking of using. Would love to put an engraved front panel to the table support that has "Just like Clockwork" in the middle and the BL and Hornby logos on each side of that. Mike

Looks good, Mike. Can't wait to see the finished layout!
My next step, now that I have a winding key for the Duke, is to try him on Lionel 0-27 track I have on another mini table that goes under our Christmas tree. I know my Hornby 4-4-0 Compound wont do that radus unless I rework how the pilot truck is mounted. But the Duke is mounted differently. Still on the fence about buying a Lionel Albert Hall set, I have the money but its either the set, or a tinplate building or two and some rolling stock. Mike
She has morphed into a prewar Lionel layout, I started with Lionel and guess I am going to stay loyal to the brand. We have a little 225e set on the layout right now, along with a Marx depot, Lionel 394 beacon, Marx bridge that I repainted. I still have Marx telephone poles, tinplate gantry crane and crossing light to install. This little table will eventualy be an upper level to a small Std gauge table below it. I plan to do the same thing, a small table thats big enough for a small loop of Std gauge track and my 8e to run around it. I have put my last UK style tinplate engine up for trade. Need other items to fill up this little layout that come from the prewar era. I love lighted stuff, a different station would be nice, street light poles, different cars or engines ect. Open to most anything I can use on here. The transformer will go in the front right corner once it arrives in the mail and I replace the cord. Mike
