Power Question?

Hi GUYZ,

I currently have a 15 x 16 foot layout with three loops. They are powered by three 180 watt Lionel power bricks. I am running Lionel Legacy and MTH via a TIU with the bricks. I would like use four switches to inter connect only the first two loops that I can switch loop one and loop two with each train. All the 180 watt bricks are in phase. Do I leave the 180 watt bricks as is and have 360 watts of power for doing this? Or do I eliminate one brick? I also should mention that I will be running a 8 car passenger train X 2, or 8 car Passenger train and freight, on each loop. Is there any problems leaving the two 180 watt bricks hooked up as is now? I do not want to harm any electronics in this set up. Any suggestions are deeply appreciated.

I would leave the power as is and isolate the center rails between the connections of all the switches, keeping the loops separate and isolated from one another. I would not tie two PH-180s together by connecting loops directly to each other (or in any other way).

Don't connect the two loops with the PH180's together, I have to sing with the chorus here. While you may have them connected briefly by pickups as you cross over between the loops, having the connected all the time is a very bad idea.
