Pre-York Breakfast, Thursday October 22, 2020

I still have to get my stuff in order, will do that this week and post back to confirm I'll be there Peter.

Hey Peter...........count me in!  And with EddieG's countdown already started, I am putting the kibosh on any train purchases until then............well....probably...

Okay, what chore. Count me in Peter, I will be right across the way by the looks of it(if I don't get lost coming there, lol). A new spot for me, my usual hotel was booked.

I'm there!  I'm staying overnight on Thursday to make sure I make this event! 

We spend 1k plus on an engine - what's an extra night's room and board for a fun social event?

I doubt the Covid 19 will be over by October York so I'm making no plans until I hear definitive answers from the CDC and gov't that this thing is over and it is safe resume our life's and hobbies. 

Sorry to be a downer but I just think this virus will not be over by October York.

Latest update done.....Thursday AM, October 22nd.....likely starting between 0730-0800.

Guess I have to update my Hotel reservation, again.....well, it's worth it!

I agree. I held out hope for April until it was officially cancelled. I will do the same for October until it officially gets cancelled. Although things do look bleak at this point a lot can change between now and then and I think good things are going to happen. Maybe not tomorrow but hopefully soon. 

Peter thanks for continuing this. Paula and I plan to be there.

Stay safe at the hospital. Hopefully some of the meds they are using will be successful. Than could dramatically  reduce the effects of this disease.

I have my reservation for October. I'm thinking positive thoughts.  If they come to be it will be one heck of a blast at York!

An hour ago I was in the middle of breakfast, but I didn't see any of you guys there, what happened?

I guess that means an early breakfast to beat the rush!

Since York is going to be three days in the Fall, is the breakfast going to be on Thursday or Friday?

I will plan to be there for the breakfast gathering, assuming the "all clear" is sounded by October. Have not made hotel reservations or other plans for Oct. York yet, but will likely do so once I see how things go in another month or so. OGR is currently planning to have a full presence at the October meet, but we'll just have to see how this virus mess goes. At this point I'm neither optimistic nor pessimistic; just realistic.

I'm with Allan. If I were at breakfast, it would have been scrambled eggs, wheat toast, bagel, and maybe pancakes(no fu-fu on them) and coffee.

I have to chime in here and agree with my friend, Dave here. I am not attending any show until this virus goes away to pluto.  Not worth going to October York if things are iffy. I hate to be another downer but that is reality folks.

Well, if October York is held then hands down I am going. Some experts are predicting another Covid-19 pandemic next winter. Of course maybe with a little luck there might be a cure by then but the also so called experts say there won't be. I just don't understand how they can predict things like that but they do. Anyway....like I said if the ED has the meet I am going. If they cancel October York, well then no one will be going.

I realize that many folks in our hobby are older and they may have underling health issues and if they feel it isn't safe to go I totally understand. I am knocking anyone who feels afraid to attend due to their health. Each of us has to make their own decision on something like this.

I'm with you - I don't know what will happen.  But I'm in favor of making reservations now while rooms are plentiful.  If I have to cancel later, so be it - all it "costs" is a few clicks and keystrokes.

Me too. I am really looking forward to it. It is a very fluid situation and I am trying to keep on thinking positive.

Well, I have my hotel reservation, and I'm planning on making the breakfast, and everything else.  Of course, there's no certainty that this ugly thing won't come back in the fall and screw up my plans, but that's what I'm planning now.

I hope Round the Clock Diner is doing well. I may call them sometime this week. I know all the owners well. I have been going there for over 25 years.  I'm crossing my fingers that there will be an October York.

Well, since I didn't use any vacation time for the York that just didn't happen, as well as a non-train vacation trip I was going to take this week (obviously cancelled), I'm hoping October is a go. 

I may even take some extra days to check out the bandits for a day or 2 earlier in the week.  I know they are not like the old days, but I only did that once maybe 15 years ago or so.  Maybe October is the time to check them out again.

Hopefully the situation will clear up and York will be held.  I am not optimistic given the history of the previous three world pandemics.  But I should have plenty of vacation stored up by then.

 I can't count how many times I have been glad that I went to the last York against everyone's advice.

They just resumed Dine In activities today.

I plan on being there with my Sweetie. We're both really looking forward to it. 

I'm in Palm Beach, FL, and we went to 50% dine in capacity on Monday. Everyone has their own comfort level, and I'm not comfortable with that yet. We return to the north shortly, and will see how it goes up there. But I definitely agree with Allan about being realistic, and I don't think I'll be able to do that until October. In the meantime, reservation has been booked.

Haven't booked yet, not because I think it won't happen (and it might not), but because I figure they'll deeply discount the rooms when half of y'all stay home.

The IBC convention in Amsterdam for September has cancelled already but I suspect that's more due to economic and international travel concerns.

I booked a refundable reservation, if there's a steep discount later, I'll cancel and rebook.

I think I am going to take a 0 for York this year assuming that October happens. It is too many uncertainties at this point and the rails will get narrower the closer we get. This is nothing more that I would like than to chill having breakfast with everyone.

If we do manage to have Marty's dedication at the Toy Train Museum on that Wednesday I will see about attending that since we'd be outdoors for it and hopefully not cramped tightly together. See how things pan out.

Dave, I'm thinking it will be the same with me for October, if it happens.  I'll hold out hope, but we will see what develops.  The trip should be economically feasible for me this time, which has held me back before.  However, there are too many other uncertainties that I doubt will be resolved in time for the Eastern Division to plan the event.

I'm looking forward to seeing all of you guys in October. We're grown men that enjoy playing with trains. Reality is just too real sometimes. Let us enjoy this forum in peace.

OK guys...after a dozen alerts to this thread over the past week or so, I took the time this morning to do some "heavy handed moderation" (a favorite expression for those that don't like our moderation/rules). 

Keep the discussion about attending the breakfast and don't post links, etc. to the fights going on about whether a business should open and defy the current law.  All of this just encourages speculation based on emotion much of the time.  This virus thing will end eventually...perhaps sooner than later we can hope! 

OGR will soon be making plans on attending this coming York meet...but only if by that time there is an effective treatment and/or vaccine. 

I will tell the mods to keep this thread open but if we continue to get alerts and find that the politics and general discussion trend goes off topic, then they will close it.

Any one heard more news about Round the Clock Diner? Did they get their licence Back or what?

The Hershey car show has been cancelled. That is held a week before York.

Take what you want from that.

I would hope we can do this for Marty, someone a lot of us truly miss. It's a 2 hour drive for me and will be there if and when it is planned. It will be outdoors and who would not want to miss that fresh fall air out in cow pasture country! Lol!

If there is no York, I doubt there will be a dedication.

Breakfast is rescheduled to 0730 April 22, 2021, God willing.
