Several years ago I repowered an older Rivarossi FM locomotive with P&D Hobbies
universal drive system, it has worked flawlessly. This locomotive is one of three in
a consist. Suddenly one of the "spider" joints in drive keeps popping out and
all locomotive drive is lost! The joint still looks brand new, does not look worn
at all? Help!

Its the flex-joint in the motor drive line. ncng

They sent me replacement parts and all is good 
I always thought they were called universals. Learn something new everyday.

I use those plastic U joints, but can imagine they have a failure mode. Safest is the USH variety, brass and steel, and the telescoping feature is external to the joint, just like every single real driveshaft for cars, trucks, and tractors.
