Does anyone else chuckle when they see some of the asking prices for PS1 equipment?

A forum sponsor is selling a PS1 premier diesel for $366.83.

LoL.  MSRP was $329.95  over 21 years ago.

I typically see good deals from this sponsor, but this one just seems to be out in left field.  Just what is it they think they have there?  Gold plated no doubt.

IMHO, PS1 premier diesels, used are worth $200 or less, depending on their condition.

What are your thoughts?

I totally agree Ron! At least for me that’s a lot of money to ask for a premiere Proto sound one engine. Of course I may not know as much about the MSRP value 21 years later like some people might, but from my own research online and having bought proto one products before I would say that’s definitely a lot of money to ask for something that’s that old.

Now if the seller was including let’s say for example five cars with that engine I would definitely say that’s a deal but for just a locomotive that’s really a lot to ask for an engine that’s 21 years old.

Last year for example,  I purchased an early MTH premiere Proto sound one BL-2 diesel from 1996 from a family on Facebook marketplace and it included around four or five freight cars along with the engine. If I’m remembering correctly I will recall them asking around 300 for the whole bundle. To me this was a deal I couldn’t pass on.  Plus it was my first ever Florida East Coast engine and I always wanted to have an FEC locomotive since it’s one of my favorite road names. In addition the BL-2 was kind of a quirky engine and I’ve always been a fan of some of the weird looking stuff LOL

Many sellers are offering used items at inflated prices these days. I suspect lack of trains shows has made them a bit of a sellers market. Some sellers including a forum sponsor will post at a high price and if there is no interest the price is lowered every week or so until it sells.

Put it in your watch list if its something you are interested in.

Simple, it’s worth as much as somebody is willing to pay for it, and as much as the seller is willing to part with it,....nothing more, nothing less,....what you “think” the price should be is purely irrelevant......if these were on auction, and you’re max bid was 200 bucks,  ....there’d be almost a guaranteed somebody that’ll go 201.....nature of the beast,....

TOTALLY AGREE, Asking above list for a proto-1 is crazy and whoever, is just trolling for a big fish.

BTW just last week my club received a very generous donation that included several MTH Proto-1 engines. We sold them to the members for $100 each. THEY ALL SOLD.

Wow... That is awesome.

Starting to plan my next BlueRail project.  Inexpensive PS1's are great candidates.

Except I'm not talking about auction sites or greedy sellers thinking they can clean up on others fear and panic.

I'm talking about a very reputable reseller of trainz that knows the business and resale pricing very well.

It's just unusual and not like them.
