I have a Premier N&W J with "337 miles" on it.  While moving forward it abruptly stopped in its tracks so to speak.  When I tried to restart it, the sound starts normally, but the front headlight remains off.  I increase the speed via the remote and nothing happens.  I change direction and the backup light comes on and so does the headlight.  Occasionally a puff of smoke will billow from the smoke stack.  As I change direction, the front and backup lights go on and off in unison.  I changed the batter hoping that this would fix the problem but it did not.

Any suggestions?  Should I try reprogramming it?  Or?

Thanks,

Tom Jasper

Okay, it seems that there is a loose electrical connection on the draw bar at the interface with the locomotive.  As I press the bar upward compressing the spring at the connection with the locomotive the DCS appears to operate the locomotive properly.  If there is a loose connection, this would explain why the locomotive would nun normally part way around the loop and then abruptly come to a stop (i.e.; when the draw bar wired connection would fail).

Is it straight forward repairing the electrical connection between the draw bar and locomotive?

thanks, Tom

It is quite likely that the plug that goes into the drawbar on the locomotive end, has worked loose. Sometimes these don't have enough slack. If you remove the screw and spring attaching the drawbar, the plug should be accessible and can be reseated in the socket. Reinstall the drawbar and you're good to go.
