Does anyone know the function of the bare metal rod that is attached to the new style PS3 Drawbar/Tether?
The drawbar itself looks like a piece of circuit board that I'm assuming has the wire leads imbedded in it, but I don't know what's the purpose of the bare metal rod attached to the drawbar. Maybe a ground?

The rod is only connected at the engine. It sits like a wiper on the tender post. The drawbar is a fiber that is flexible an strong. G

The Wireless Drawbar has been around long before PS-3. It has been used for at least 5-years now and proven itself. Most problems with it are "operator" errors of not properly seating it.
