QUESTION ABOUT VL HUDSON

I have not had anything like that with mine.

Have any of the Cab light blinks occurred indicating a problem?

I believe 5 blinks is a motor issue.  Check your manual to be sure.  You could try.  A reset is always a good start.  If it persists though I would contact Lionel and let them advise you further especially being a Vision Line.

Marty good news to report I just went down to the layout and did a factory reset and shes running great. Thanks for the help, I think if I remember correctly earlier today something might have fell on the track a made a short, so maybe that did it.

Cool.  Keep an eye on it.  A reset cures a lot of woes.

Too bad life doesn't come with a reset. Would come in handy sometimes! In any event, the helpful advice here is one reason I like this forum.

LOL! Dave.  Somebody pushed my reset about 2 years ago.   Fixed a lot my problems too!

The 5 blinks is the smoke fan motor in the whistle smoke unit.  I have seen a few of these.  Four blinks is the smoke element in your whistle smoke unit.  I am glad you got things working.

I own a few Lionel Legacy engines and the VL Hudson is my only VL.  I rate this engine the best Hudson that Lionel has ever made.  I have had almost every Lionel Hudson ever made and this is the king.  I have a great deal of running time on my engine and it is a real performer.  I was in a train store today and they had one (grey) new in the box.  I was very surprised to see that.

Thanks Marty.  I wasn't sure and didn't have my manuals handy. 

From the manual...  I guess that 5 was the whistle fan didn't make the cut.  1 blink is the drive motor.  Interesting that the whistle fan would affect the drive system.  The manual wouldn't have been much help then.  Since Marty went to class I would definitely heed his advise!

1 Main drive motor stalled.
2 Smoke 1 element problem.
3 Smoke 1 fan problem.
4 Not applicable.
5 Not applicable.

Mine was bad out of the box.  A fifteen minute fix and it also helps to have a few fan motors on hand.  I had no problem as this engine is fantastic.

Last I heard, Lionel still has the gunmetal version in stock.

I also see in the OGR AND CTT magazine train store adds have plenty of gun metal gray Hudson's in stock. That surprised me too, and there at a pretty good price.
