I've finally gotten around to trying Kadees on some Lionel F units. I picked up a few 740 series couplers to use as a reference. I hope to mount the Kadees on the trucks talgo style to allow running on smaller radiuses. It appears the newer 742 overset shank will give near perfect height with minimal shimming but the standard gearbox is too long.

Looking at the Kadee site it appears the 800 series couplers are being phased out. Did Kadee ever make a short shank overset coupler in the 800 series that is no longer shown? If so I am hoping I can find some old stock to complete this project.

Pete,

If you haven't already, look into the possibility the 742 will fit for your application by trimming the back off the standard draft gear box. There's more material to the box than actually is needed. It won't be quite the same fit as the 806 box, but you can get pretty close. Many of us do it all the time for locomotive installations.
