Hey everyone, now the R142A of mine is flickering like crazy and when I get it to some parts of the tracks, it slows down and shuts off, just the powered units with the 4 cars still on. I'm using Lionel fastrack and I bought a proto sound battery charger and charged it and cleaned the track and the rollers. I honestly have no clue what's going on. First the R26 and now the 142A

The first thing I do if that happens is make sure the track is clean and that all the track is getting the correct voltage. I have noticed that if I have not used a subway loco for awhile that it exibits the very same problems you have stated. What I then do is give the engine a good run at moderate to higher speed and run it for a few laps around the track. In my case anyways that does the trick. Oxidation or dirt must get into the points of electrical contact on the engine and that causes blinking lights plus the stopping of the loco in spots. Good luck.
