R-142A flickering..... Oh boy...

The first thing I do if that happens is make sure the track is clean and that all the track is getting the correct voltage. I have noticed that if I have not used a subway loco for awhile that it exibits the very same problems you have stated. What I then do is give the engine a good run at moderate to higher speed and run it for a few laps around the track. In my case anyways that does the trick. Oxidation or dirt must get into the points of electrical contact on the engine and that causes blinking lights plus the stopping of the loco in spots. Good luck.

It's the pick up rollers.  Clean them and make sure they roll easy.

Cleaning track without cleaning your rollers is like not cleaning it at all.  You have to clean both  Also make sure you put a drop of oil on the ends of the pickup rollers where the springs are.  If the roller gets gunked up it doesn't turn and heats up  The heat makes the relay trip on the board

Ok, ill try that, thanks! I cleaned the rollers and track on the same day too. I ran it an hour or 2 later and it starts flickering like crazy, could it also be the track cause I heard Lionel tracks suck! I may switch my tracks to atlas, they are far more better

If you have more than one train with the same issue than its definitely the track. I would check the wiring to make sure nothing is loose. I would recommend staying with Lionel track especially if it is not a permanent layout.

Did you oil the rollers?  Atlas track is no better than Lionel when it comes to getting dirty
