Hey guys!
I do not know if I'm doing something wrong when I hook up my rail sounds when I switch it out from another steam locomotive. I guess my first question is, can they be interchanged? It seems to work fine besides I DO NOT have the chuffing when the train is in motion. There is also a green wire that was not connected and wrapped in a grey/black plastic piece that leads from the tender to the locomotive wiring. I connect that as well and nothing. So do I need to buy the rail sound for that locomotive or can I take it out of the one that has it? Thanks!

The chuffing effect is usually enabled by a cam sensor on a wheel set or a magnetic sensor reading a magnet on a wheel set or by a secondary circuit in the sound system called a voltage controlled oscillator.  Without additional information on the original loco and tender it's hard to answer your question on what the unused wire is for.
