I am still in the process of putting track down for my new layout. I’m just stuck on one thing, what is the difference between an O-36 left hand switch and a Right hand switch? I just want to have two independent loops for two different trains to run on at the both with individual power. But I also want them connected with each other. I would like to upload a photo of what I would like it to look like but the website is not processing my photos. Maybe later I can try again with the photo.

I'm not sure I understand the question, so I hope this helps. If you want to travel between the 2 loops, you need a set of both right and left hand switches as shown. If you don't have both, you won't be able to get back out without backing up. The switches can be placed elsewhere, but hopefully you get the idea.

I understand this and it helps me. I have a few questions. If I were to buy two sets of switches, would the left hand switches and the right hand switches go together? Or would the two rights go together and vice versa.  Another question, if I were to just get one, that just means I would have to back up every time, right? Thought I would ask just to make sure I’m getting the right thing, the picture is also helpful.

This is a very simple answer for you, when, looking at the entrance of the switch from the main line, a right hand switch will break to the right, a left-hand switch will break left
