I am thinking of buying one of these but I actually do not want the "service area" along the side. I don't ever recall any photos of old gas stations with a open air service garage. I think I might be able to purpose those parts in another spot of the layout.
It looks like I could easily cut along the side to remove it. Anyone try this?

If you are removing that side area, would you sell me any of the parts? I am mainly interested in the automobile lift rack, but I could probably use other pieces. Let me know. GNX582@CenturyTel.net

Outdoor drive on ramps were more common but lifts were used. There's one at the body shop in NJ where our Corvair club does tech sessions.
I have that building in a box waiting for a new layout. Reminds me of my Dad's gas station. Thats a better lift than he had. His was just two 6" wide rails lifting the car. There is a whole bunch of "stuff" behind the fence. Can take a picture if you really want it. TW

Thanks for the pics. Is the lift just held on with a screw on the bottom? I could easily remove just the lift and maybe make the fenced in part like a junk yard.
Its glued in. On bottom you can see small peg that goes through base. Thats it. The light poles are functional but if you can cut the plastic base off at the building, your good to go.
JDEVLEERJR, I know you are probably still going to use only part of the station. I remember seeing some pics of lifts outside. They were definitely of earlier gas stations. I found this one but it is a bit later............Paul
