I picked up some Lionel postwar accessories today and one of them,a Lionel #460 piggy back set, has some paint spatters and masking tape residue on them, otherwise they are in excellent shape.
Is there a safe way of removing this stuff?
Would "Super Clean" work on this? I have stripped paint off of shells before with great success.

try old fashion lighter fluid to remove tape residue. It is still available at good hardware stores. Lenny
If the tape residue is old try dabbing a little water on it first. If that doesn't do the trick and/or the residue is fairly new I have had good luck with a product called Goo Gone. Takes off the crud and I've never had it react with the finish but you might try it on a hidden area first.

A product named Goof Off removed paint splatter from my garage cement floor. I would gently try it on a inconspicous spot first.
I'd start with Mineral Spirits... ditto on starting on an inconspicuous spot first.
I use WD-40 doing a test in a hidden area as others mentioned.
