Finished Scratch building a Ballast car

Nick, I am using an open 3 bay hopper, but only the center chute will be used. 

Mike is the spread going to be wide enough to ballast the outside of the rails?  Just a thought but why not a junker standard gauge hopper with o gauge trucks? That would give you the width.

Hi Nick that is the plan, I just don't want a lot of ballast flowing out. so I thought if I could get the opening size of a manufactured car I could copy that.

I don't have a clue as to the right railcar to modify. But if you need to ballast in the meantime the ballast machine      shown will work just fine. Good luck!

Hi All I finished the scratch kinda build. First I would like to thank Briansilvermustang for the donation of the car. Here are some pictures, not the greatest but will work, and it puts down a nice level product!
