When I initially posted it, the picture showed up. Now it's gone for me too. I wonder what happened.

Just got a Lionel Legacy Seaboard C-420.

Lionel Chessie System Alco S4 Switcher Engine.

Here are mine. Lionel PA's from 2004.

 

 

You know Rusty...  I see that you are right. The old memory cells aren't quite what they used to be!  

When I came across these images several years ago I thought I remembered them as from R.O.W. literature but perhaps not. They appear to have a 'Kadee' type coupler on them, different compared to the AM model of the NH you posted below. Could these be HO models perchance like Mike Wolfe used when first introducing his scale F3s in the mid 1990s?

 

Here's another R.O.W. in D&H on our old layout along with an ABBA Lionel early Santa Fe. Lastly is a modified Williams I painted in the 'Aspen Leaf' scheme.

These two by AM are especially appealing to me. I've always liked silver trucks on a diesel as they really set off the colorful paint schemes used by some RRs and although not prototypical from what I gather, the Freight Santa Fe's bring back great memories of the Gilbert PA set from the mid 1950s that was a favorite I never had as a boy!

Sam, you have exceptional taste in PA's. The two shown above are exquisite.

Nope, those are the AM Models.  In the PA's case, the models appeared the same time as the advertizing.  They were available with either hiral wheels and Flyer compatible couplers(like mine, which are only posed on scale track) or scale wheels and could have Kadee's mounted.  I think AM included Kadees with the scale wheel loco's.

 

I wish AM would do another run.

Years ago I had two sets of the S scale PAs - the Santa Fe and the D&H. Both had the chrome finish and were beautiful. Don't remember the manufacturer, AM?

ahem. This pic below is an American Models S guage ad... NOt a ROWI ad. ROWI[Right of Way Industries] never made DLGE Alco Pa's. They only came in the Tuscan 5 stripe flavor and only advertised as such.

 

They would be AM.  Only AM and Gilbert/Flyonel made PAs in S.  And there is a world of difference between the two.

Those D&H Alcos are beautiful. Possibly one of the best looking trains of all time!

I think the best paint scheme for the ALCo Pa's are the Erie, NYC, NH, and Wabash.

Keith, you may get a differing opinion on this one, many prefer the Sante Fe Warbonnet as their top choice.

 

But I do agree with your choices in as much as they are all very classy.

I actually don't like the Santa Fe Warbonnet scheme on the PA's. I really only like it on the F units.

Ron H - Just noticed that you have all 3 units smoking (as an Alco should!). Did you add a smoke unit to the B unit?

 

Keith,  how can you not like a Warbonnett on any engine - especially a PA????

 

Like I said, the PA's are probably my least favorite, as well as the FA's. on the other hand, I do like it on the heritage extended vision cabooses, E8's, and I LOVE it on F units.

My grandpa is the same way. He has loved the Santa Fe Warbonnet F7's ever since he was a kid.

C.Sam, I bought these units from a member. The B unit is a powered unit with smoke.

 

These will be great when I super detail them and close couple them.
