Atlas has made plastic kits of their Passenger Station (https://shop.atlasrr.com/p-242...ger-station-kit.aspx) and Signal Tower (https://shop.atlasrr.com/p-241...ignal-tower-kit.aspx) for a long time. I have built HO and N scale models of them in the past for previous layouts, and now I have one of each kit in O scale for a future layout. I could build them straight up, but wondered if anyone here had modified those O scale models (new colors, new details, interior, kitbashing) into something else. If so, please post pictures.

Thanks

Ben, You're welcome and thank you!

I have started doing that once I decided to eventually want to put interior details and lights in some buildings.  It's easy, since all you need is to make sure you have a means to align the roof or upper floors to the part that isn't removed.  Also, yo have to decide what parts to not glue.  On this one, I decided to leave the chimney on the non removable part and there was the alignment.  The chimney cap snaps off to allow the chimney to feed back through the hole in the roof.  It seemed to me the logical way to do it.  I'm sure it could be done other was with the same effect!

I have two Atlas O control towers – one on my 10’-by-5’ layout and another on my 12’-by-8’ layout. The models are built from the kits with little modification but are elevated above track level. This would provide a better view of the tracks for tower operators and makes the towers more prominent on the layouts.

The first three photos show “Trumbull Junction” on my 10’-by-5’ layout. It is elevated about 1-inch (4 scale feet) above the tracks.

The next three photos show the tower on my 12’-by-8’ layout. It sits atop a hill and is elevated about 4-inches (16 scale feet) above the tracks. One small modification to this tower is the scribed wood flooring on the porch at the rear of the tower.

The next photo shows the tower and the station and platforms at track level behind it.

The last four photos show the station and two adjacent platforms. I have added scribed wood planking on one of the platforms and around the station for a more realistic look.
