Hi Folks,

I have been running the new Pocahontas for the past 2 days.  So far smoke production is good; maybe, not as bellowing as that seen in laidoffsick's video on smoke units, but decent.  I am using Megasteam.

So far, over the past 2 days, I have added about 45 drops of fluid at 5-10 drop intervals.  Now, after about 6 runs around the oval with decent smoke production, I notice the smell of a faint tinge of heated plastic.

Is that the wick burning??

Thanks

Thanks fellas!

With a little bit of senior citizen recall, I do remember having detected this aroma on 2 of my other locomotives while using the same MegaSteam after running them for a bit where the smoke unit is at temp.  Might not be a plastic smell as much as a chemical smell.  I am happy it is not the wick.

In an effort to make sure the wick is saturated well, I have been gradually adding 5-10 drops of fluid at various times.  So far, since the return of the engine from Lionel over the past few days, I have added a total of 45 drops.  As you may recall from laidoffsick's video, he wound up adding about 60 drops to each of the 2 chambers in his smoke unit where he had just installed new Lionel wicks.  After 60 drops (I think that much), the wick was finally saturated.
