Spring Carlisle Eclipse this Year - Anyone else going?

Most likely.  I'm an MGB guy.  Would love to have a General Lee replica someday, despite my wife's disapproval!

I've seen trains for sale at the Hershey, PA meet.

I won't be, but I appreciate the heads up!

In past years when these overlap, it may be better to make hotel reservations earlier rather than later.

What year GTO do you have?  I have a '67 Hardtop, 4-spd.

It is my understanding that this show, when it falls on the same weekend, can put a strain on the West of York motel availability. Better book rooms early.

I have found uncommon trains at Carlisle, but not in recent years, and have not

attended as religiously as I once did, as the show has trended toward used cars

rather than antiques, and there is a lot less older stuff there than there once was.

I've never actually been to this "all makes" show myself, only the Corvettes at Carlisle event. As I understand it that one is pretty much the "York" of Corvette shows along with Bloomington. It was a great and massive show so hopefully this one doesn't turn out to be a bust. If it does we'll just have to scurry on back to the trains 

Our webmaster allows this thread which has nothing to do with trains, but delites the thread where I explained why no pictures are allowed in the halls at York. 

Eddie, this thread is of utmost relevance to this sub-forum because of how concurrent shows will affect traffic and hotel availability. No different than the threads we've had here about road work warnings and alternate routes.

Trust me there's no issue with this thread Erie. Like I said this is actually an important announcement because of how it will affect traffic and hotel availability for York. I'll let Allan Miller explain why Eddie disapproves 

Nick, Car people are not going to book hotels in York because the prices are too high because of the train meet there. Besides Carlyle is some distance from York. There are tons of hotels much nearer to the car show where they can get a much lower rate. 

News Bulletin! There are far more "car nuts" than "toy train nuts". The Carlisle shows are huge. They even cause backups on the turnpike. Lower room rates? they are probably higher near Carlisle.

And not all Train people stay in York itself either. 

I stay a bit north to get a better rate myself, I don't mind the smooth drive down 83 in the morning vs. an extra $80-100 per night for an "in York" hotel. 

In past years when there has been overlap, I definitely have seen car people at my hotel and the front desk has mentioned that both were the same week on those occasions.  

My room might have cost slightly more on those occasions too, but still far less (at the time) than a York hotel.

Yep, Spring Carlisle will eclipse the York show by a full day on both ends this year.

Joe Hohmann has it right.  I used to attend Hershey and Carlisle auto shows religiously, and no hotel bargains there!  These two shows were mobbed!  And

I did find a rare train set at Carlisle some years ago, which makes it, like any other

giant antique flea market with the potential for trains, relevant to this forum.  I, in younger days, often camped, but found motels out in the boonies, too.  Uh, like York, be prepared to WALK and walk, and walk.....

I have not been to Carlisle in a while, but I am going this spring. After driving all that way to York, I might as well spend another night.

I've only been to Carlisle once, quite a few years ago.
I found an American Flyer 0-6-0 switcher, a bunch of Winross trucks, and some tools.

I occasionally stay in Carlisle instead of York - save $50 or more per night, and get to visit the Market Cross Pub.  Also, taking PA 74 is a relaxing drive into York in the morning, and it avoids most of the traffic.  Not this time, though.

I'd like to get to the car show sometime, but gotta save my legs for York.

PC950: You better give yourself at least an hour to make the trip form fairground to fairground generally traffic during the spring meet is pretty heavy.. Unless you use the turnpike to cross the river you will have to deal with Harrisburg traffic. Route 30 will take even longer. I know made the trip many times as I work in the area. Thanks for the heads up! I've always wanted to go to Carlisle, and this might be a perfect excuse!

I have not been to Carslile in several years but have been thinking of going.  What is required to get in to the York show.  I believe you need to join a organization and get a invite?  Thank you,  Jon

No more invite required.

Essentially you need to join the organization with a year's dues ($50) and pay the admission for the meet ($20 at this point).

I think the initiation fee that used to be standard is still waived until around June, but I'm stating that from memory.  If not, I think that fee is something around $20.

  As RJT stated before take the PA Turnpike from getting from one place to another, it will cost you a few bucks but worth it. Traffic on 83 is very heavy this time of year with all the construction that is an on going thing here in Pa. Went out to get the turnpike in Carlisle a few years ago when going to the NRA Show in Pittsburgh and had a long wait to get on there.  Good luck it is a GREAT Show!!!
