Swapping out scale couplers | O Gauge Railroading On Line Forum

I bought a semi-scale K-Line C&O hopper only to be surprised when it arrived with scale couplers. I have 6 other matching hoppers, and they all came with traditional O-Gauge couplers.

I'd like to install traditional couplers and was thinking about just buying a set of die-cast sprung trucks available from Lionel. In looking at how this hopper is constructed, however, I'm not sure how feasible a conversion would be.

I can see that removing the couplers is a small matter, just a couple of screws, so my question is about the trucks. Before I break anything, I cannot see a way to remove the trucks. It almost looks like they're riveted on.

Any help would be appreciated.
