Told a friend that I'd test his LGB #28 A.T. & SF loco for him but know little about it. I believe that this is a DC operated locomotive but not sure. There is also a three position switch located on the firebox in the cab. What is this for. Are the positions AC DC and DCC? If so which one? When it comes to LGB/Marklin equipment I am stumped. Any answers to these questions are appreciated.

Typically the switch represents three modes of operating the loco. All power functions off OR power to the lights and smoke features OR power to the lights, smoke and motor.
And DC only. Unless it is a newer one that is capable of DCC. But those will have a sticker on the bottom.
Thanks guys for putting me on the right track. When It comes to LGB/Marklin I have little experience. I probably won't be able to fix this loco but will refer the owner to a service center hopefully one here in NJ.
