 Happy Switcher Saturday. I will get with the program and my picture is of Conrail #9929,  an Alco RS-3, operating in what looks to be a typical Pennsylvania small town.

Nice picture.  A quick thing about the engine.

It is actually a rebuild and not classed as a RS3 but is now an RS3m or a "Dewitt Geep". This was a rebuild project started under PC and continued by Conrail done to older Alcos where the Alco engines were transplanted with EMD engines from E7s. There were two styles of this done. One was more boxey and one more rounded. A quick spotting feature is the double EMD style stacks on the long hood and the two round fans on the top of the end of the long hood. 

I have a Lionel shell that I am turning into one right now hence my nerdy interest.

Thanks for adding the details. Here are some more...It was also a former PRR unit, #8481. The remotoring was done at Juniata in 1979.

This week I am posting a group of images of shop switchers. Some of which are quite homely.

Thinking about the bike trail.  Montour RR bike trail. 

BNSF Clyde yard Cicero, IL 1/25/2016. I see these two when I pass here on my delivery route. Anyone know what these are? Looks to me like a gp38 with a big sd40 unit working out its final days. Used my phone to take the photos.

since I haven't gotten around to gathering up a correct tender for 1622, I threw some Prewar trucks on an MPC tender I had, and made a quick and dirty drawbar until I decide if I just reletter and do some detailing on this one. even added a siding for 1622.

Interesting assortment !   Some I have never seen.  Here is my kit bashed model, large scale, but still one that I like.

Switching a few cars.

I have been watching the SS for awhile and there have, like this weekend, been some great looking switchers here.  Especially the very old ones.  So I will make my first attempt.

I do like them. I have maybe seven - three are cast in brass.  One of the die cast  NWs got hit by a raccoon a couple weeks ago, and bent in the middle after a five foot fall to the concrete.  Believe it or not, I managed to straighten it - you cannot tell.  Die cast is usually not that forgiving.

Great pictures Mike, we have a ex-rail bike trail down here too between Baltimore and Annapolis, I'm only about a mile away from the trail.  All the best...Rich

Hey, guys.

Sorry I didn't jump in on the fun as usual yesterday but I was on the road at the "Big E" show at West Springfield. That said, Switcher Saturday was still in my thoughts and I was able to catch some switching action on one of the HO modular layouts. Here we see IHB and CN units drilling freight cars as a U.S. Army S-2 awaits the call to duty.

I saw the switch list...Some guy named Richard Petty, in Level Cross, North Carolina. 

naw...The King had Superbirds...not Daytonas!

Either way, being gas guzzlers, they'll need that tank car full of gas that follows them in the train! 

all depends on how heavy that right foot is...my road runner does pretty well.
