I have been experiencing a particularly stressful time at work lately and had kind of cooled to my trains in recent months.  I was still running trains several times each week but, it was more like going through the paces than actual enjoyment.

Well, maybe it has to do with our first crisp fall morning here in Atlanta or the recent thread on MPC but, this morning after walking the dog I headed to the basement and dug out some MPC stuff I hadn't run in quite some time.  After an hour and a half I can honestly say the love is back.  I was actually feeling the same level of enthusiasm I can remember having when I first returned to the hobby back in 1989.

Now, I just have to keep that feeling alive!

Curt

And THAT is the magic of Model Railroading.

Sometimes when I run my trains it kind of takes me back in time to when all I wanted to do was to set them up and run my trains.

Of course it was more simple back then, put some tube track together, hook up the wires and have some fun.

Trains can help remove stress, and it helps me relax. It also helps me forget some of my medical problems I have now, for a while anyway.

Enjoy your trains wile you can even if you have to force yourself to go down the basement and run them. It pays off in the long run.

Summer is hard on us as we have a lot of Sport activities with 5 kids.

But once the kids are back in school, and they have their routines that's when my one son who loves trains and I run them for about 15-20 minutes before he has to turn in.

Now that the weather here in the midwest suddenly turned much cooler, we suddenly re-ignited our love of the trains!!

Curt -

I am with you 100%.  It got down to 36 degrees over night here.  This morning at 8:15 when I was driving to the Club's operating secession/ Open House it was actually snowing a bit.  My response was to pop in a Christmas CD and enjoy the ride a bit more.

Talk about a good time, TRAINS, FRIENDS, SNOW & CHRISTMAS MUSIC... It is about as good as it gets.

Going back tomorrow for more of the same.
Agreed, Last summer when I first got the layout, i was all in!  I went from owning a few cars and two engines to owning a fleet of intermodal husky cars.  Right around Christmas I got busy with life and my other loves, my kids and playing Ice Hockey.  So now fast forward to the summer again and I am golfing.  If it wasn't for my local hobby store calling me to let me know of a new engine i ordered  almost a year before i wouldn't be where i am now.  i am now addicted again and have purchased two new locomotives.  I am going to calm down on the purchasing new rolling
stock cars cause i want to expand the layout.  So i guess i am in love again as well. A year ago someone wrote about being in a happy place when he runs his trains.  I agree very much.  After a very stressful summer, i decompress when i run my trains.
