In Barry's book (first edition) it states that the variable channels should have 22v input. Is that also true of the fixed cannels or do you need a seperate 18v source for these. Also what is the max that can be input into TIU. Dont know if it matters but it is rev. G.

The max voltage per channel is 22 volts. You can use whatever voltage you choose for the fixed channels as long as it's high enough to operate your PS2/3 engines (typically 14-18 volts, depending upon how many you're running), with a max of 22 volts.

If you are running conventional & set the input voltage at 22, you will find that under light loads locos run too fast. For example, my Docksider is very fast at 5.5 volts on the remote with 22 volts input. This is because the system alters the wave form in reducing the voltage. Inputting a lower voltage permits running conventional at slower speeds, as wave form isn't altered as much.
