Radio Shack might have something like that but remember to mention what you want in the switch, like momentary on, also single or double pole.

we have some at the club don't know where the electrical person got them.  a few of the ones we use stopped springing back to the off position.

You can use either a toggle switch or a push-button switch.

I used to get mine at a local electrical supply house.

As lee suggested radio shack should have them or even amazon carries them.

The off-on-off is an odd configuration, why do you want something like that?  That seems like it could just be a momentary on-off with the spring return to off, or as Charlie suggests, simply a push button.

 

Are you really looking for an on-off-on momentary like you'd use for track switches?

It sounds as though you are looking for the type of toggle switch used in aircraft  (And other places.) for starting engines. These often come with a safety cover which must be lifted before use too.

I worked in avionics for years, and I'm hard pressed to remember such a switch configuration.  I know of lots of spring return to off switches, either toggle or push-button, but an off-on-off switch is one I've never seen or heard of.

Oops. I misread the requirement. I'd read his need as being for a normally 'off' switch that was sprung against the 'on' position. In re-reading the requirement, I think now that he means a sprung on-off-on switch. But I might be totally confused by now.

If you really want spring to off from either end of throw, try a relay triggered by the switch using an on-off-on switch.

He's an example of the switch, and since it's low power, the relay you choose can carry the amps.

Otherwise, Digikey has many offerings in on-off-on but none of them for off-on-off.

I think Mr. Woody is looking for a single-pole, double-throw, momentary-on toggle. Maybe he will come back to this thread and hopefully elaborate on exactly what he wants to control so we can tell him for sure what he needs.

Minitronics has a toggel switch that dose this. I have used dozens of them. They are ON-OFF-ON and no matter if you throw them left or right they return to the center position, or off automaticly.

Very good, dependable switch with a 5 amp rating at a 120V.

What you are looking for are the MOM switches, miniature. (Momentary-Off-Momentary)

DPDT momentary  with center Off. I had one wired like an HO reversing switch for my turn table, Came in handy for  lining up the deck and house tracks. Changed directions depending which way you pressed the toggle.

We're still waiting to see if he really wants an off-on-off switch, which is a rare bird, if it exists at all!

Hi John, I know what you mean, but I never made a smart mistake in my life and I have made a few, all dumb.

What does bother me is when someone post a question and people go through the trouble of offering advice, or information as best we can and they go away with out a thank you.

Even a statement as to what a bunch of nitwits we are and our advice is about as useful as water in a fuel tank would be better then being ignorned.

Hi Greg, great switch, it will be especially useful should one need to reverse AC motors. But that unit is center off position. As far as I know a center off-on-off switch is about good for nothing. I think woody is looking for a MOM configuartion or a simple on/off switch.

But like I said above, it does not matter for we may never know.

WOODY, had to read your post  3 times to understand, as is was confusing. but im sure the advise from GREGG is exactly what you want.   OFF if untouched, momentary push in either direction for ON.   radio shack,/, mouser can supply.  dont know what your plan or amp rating  needed is.

I have used a SP switch normally off. On when pushed either way so you have two momentary on switches. I used them to control the individual functions of an operaring track. Real Trax operating track switches break easy so I used these. I got them at a local electronics store. Worked very well and no worry about leaving on and overheating the operating track. 

OFF-ON-OFF momentary makes no sense at all. I don't think a switch like that exists, because there would be no reason for that configuration.

 

ON-OFF-ON momentary is what I think he means.

would this be a use instead of the GG operating unl/unc track as well. one way to unc the other to unl.  instead of the two buttons for each, would take up a lot less space.

Hi Ralph...I am not familiar with the GG switches, I do not have any.  I'm sure it could be worked out. I said I used a SP switch but now that I think of it, it may have been a DP ( double pole) switch.

Since the OP never came back, I think it's time to unsubscribe from this thread.  We can speculate all day on the requirements, but to what end?

You folks have been over generous, but I cant understand

because I am not electrical,  BUT I would like to use some lighted

toggles for cutting accesories of or on, while trains are operational

all accessories have been wired to a 8 post block from Radio shack

MY ???? is after I go to the fuse, will the way you folks wire stuff up

allow this to be possible,  say ability to cut 1 accessory off, which probably

wont happen, I plan on keeping everything lit up !!
