Trainstock 11 will be happening on Saturday January 19 at the NJ HiRailers Train club at 10am.  For those that have never attended it is an OGR forum party.  All are welcome as well as their families.  Bring some trains to run on our layout and enjoy a day of peace, food and trains away from the hectic days of your life.  Chef Vinny will be supplying the delicious food along with the rest of our kitchen staff.

Is there plenty of parking in the area?

Great question, I'm curious as well.

One block down (west) from the club on 6th Ave. there's a large fenced in parking lot.  There's also parking along the street on 6th (fills up pretty early) and 11th Street.

Here is the difference , this probably one of the biggest and best Layouts you will ever see. This club is tops in my opinion. Layout takes up an entire floor of an old factory and is very impressive. Your grandkids will love it. I have been to see this many times and always something new to see. There are no dealers there with items to sell it’s just all Layout. This will be something you will want to see again.

Could someone please explain the difference, if any, between "Trainstock" and any of the other shows? I want to bring my grandchildren (ages 3 & 6) and I see on the club's website that there are shows on November 18th and December 2nd.

Trainstock and our other shows have very different objectives.  Trainstock is a gathering of OGR members to discuss trains and socialize.  It is primarily for adults.  Some folks bring their trains to run but not as many trains are typically running as during our other shows.  Our other scheduled shows are much more family oriented.  We usually have many children at these.  We run a complete set of train all day.   The last show in December is the best.  The place is decorated including our 20ft Christmas tree and Santa makes a visit with a present for each child.  We also take a complimentary picture with each child and Santa.

Bottom line....the kids will enjoy our regular shows much more than Trainstock.  Unless of course the kids enjoy watching older guys argue the merits of Lionel vs. MTH!!!  <g>

Thank you. That's what I need to know. I've been to Trainstock several times so instead this year I'll bring the kids to one of the other events.

One of the greatest and most fun train event. So many great people and great people hosting a great party. I sure miss attending after moving across the country.

You guys will just have to be patient and wait to see me at York!

The airlines fly in January too Brian.   We'll miss you buddy, I hope the smoke has cleared from all the fires out there.

That’s right Greg!  How did Ben photoshop me under a Yankees lid anyway!?

John, yes the planes do fly in January.   It’s something Lynley and I are thinking about for future Trainstocks. But this year we’ll be just settling her mom at our house after Lynley’s father’s recent passing.

All the fires were far north of us. And with all the rain lately it should lower the danger significantly.

This sounds like a very interesting day. I am hoping to attend with the wife. Who do I ask for further information. I would be coming in 80 ( weather permitting  ) from Ohio. I am trying to locate hotels. There is one, a Ramada in or around Wayne I believe. Is it a decent one. Also what is the parking situation for handicap. Thanks for any help ahead of time............Paul

Ramada Inn in Wayne is your typical Ramada Inn, it's fine.  That whole area is a major strip mall/shopping mall area and is very busy.  If you want something a little nicer, and about equidistant from the Hi-Railers Club, this Hyatt in Paramus is an easy drive.

Hi Paul,

If there are no readily available spots to park when you arrive you will be able to get dropped off at the curb and I believe the curb is street level at the end of the block which can be negotiated by a wheelchair.  We have a ramp to the door and as mentioned previously, an elevator to get you to the 3rd floor.

If you have concerns please contact me at the email in my profile.  I can give you my cell number and you can call me if you need any help when you and your wife arrive.  We'll get you in

The Ocean County Society of Model Railroaders, home of an almost larger  than the Hi Railers layout, will be coming up with about 8 folks.

Since I am now the club president, will you have the red carpeting rolled out for my entrance? Lol! Dennis and I switched positions as he is the vice president.

See everyone next week ( with no mallomars ).

Hi NJ HiRailers,

Melgar and I have had your upcoming  Saturday morning event in our calendars, and weather permitting, we are hoping to make it.

Is it OK if I bring with me my train doctor, Dennis? Unlike Melgar and I, Dennis is not a member of this Forum, but he is a great guy who loves Postwar Lionel trains, has a beautiful collection of them, is an engineer by profession and is brilliant at fixing Postwar Lionel trains and even works part-time for a LHS. I am hoping to recruit him to becoming an OGR Forum member.

Of course, I would pay the $8 fee for Dennis if you are OK with him attending.

I'm coming from the northern reaches of The Bronx, and used to go via the Port Authority on 42nd street. Last time I went it was via the 190 to downtown, then 746 to Madison and 6th. Still a decent walk down to the club.

This time I'm planning to go from the GWB bus terminal, as it lies right at the end of the Bx35 route I normally take to work. So, my itinerary would be: Bx39, Bx41 SBS, Bx35, NJT 171 to B'way+Rosa Parks Blvd and NJT 704 to River st and 5th Ave. Google Maps can't even show this routing. The going-home timing is dicey-er as the return-trip 704 intersects the 171 a few minutes after this hourly service is scheduled to blow through.  Failing a connection back to the 171, there's always the Route 4 jitney which goes back to the GWB terminal.

I do have an account with Uber, if I need to use it.

Folks, the Gov of New Jersey has declared a State of emergency in New Jersey beginning noon Saturday.  It is unclear what this means for folks traveling to or from Trainstock.  North Jersey will be receiving more snow than the rest of the State but it isn't supposed to begin until the evening.  Can you provide any information on weather you will be proceeding with this event?

Just got home a few minutes ago. My buddy Jersey John and I had a great time at Train Stock after missing the past three due to open house scheduling issues. Great food, good company and plenty of trains, Saw my train repair guy and friend AlexM and his lovely wife Dana. Also saw BDSME Honorary member Chris Lord.

Great time hope next year is just as good.

Another enjoyable day up at the NJ Hirailers. The food was its usual simmering fresh and good. The layout has changed from my last visit there with added monitors and cameras to watch the action. Our club layout represents about a 10% of their layout and folks call our layout large! Ok as you say.

Below is another train friendly picture of 2 train buddies who compete against each other every football season. One of these years my team might win. We're missing the guy with the orange shirt(golfing in sunny Florida).IMG_0243

Just arrived home in Connecticut - before any snow began - after visiting Trainstock 11 at NJ HiRailers in Paterson, NJ with Arnold Cribari. I have seen many model railroads in my time but never anything approaching what the NJ HiRailers have created. My compliments to everyone who has helped to build this phenomenal layout. I hope to soon have an opportunity to bring my grandkids to see this work of art and engineering. Had a great time and thanks to all the members who so kindly took the time to talk to us and tell us about the railroad. Am grateful for the opportunity...
