Vernon, I just saw this message....missed prior to my last post.

When I click on TIU settings i get the message - no active TIU found.   despite the fact you see the light is on and it is there

have you tried turning on airplane mode in your phone. This forces the communication of any app over the wifi since cell modem is disabled in this mode.

I'm just saying- it's specific to this phone. The phone is connected and got an IP from the MTH network meaning it's directly connected to the WIU. If another tablet or phone already is working and talking through the WIU to the TIU- then we assume that portion is working, it's isolated to this phone device.

I'm not trying to defend the app but a huge portion of this is knowing and understanding the nature of the very 3rd party phone or tablet you are trying to use. It has an operating system and the app sits on top of it. Effectively, you are expecting the app to communicate through layers and layers and devices to make it all the way to the TIU and eventually the train.

Again, you have the DCS app, sitting on top of your phone's operating system, then any settings, trying to get out on the network. You hope it goes over the wifi network because that is where the WIU is, but being a phone, it's got the cellular modem. So "if" that communication from the app travels out over the cellular data network, it could never ever reach your WIU- let alone the TIU. This is why I've been saying there is always a potential issue with 3rd party device. You don't have control- MTH doesn't have control over how the OS works and how it deals with the network routing.

Again, if you have one phone that works, and one that doesn't- bingo- something is happening in that phone.

Tried the airplane mode to no avail.  Yes it is definitely something in this particular phone.   I get what  your saying about two separate systems but I would hope that we could do more than just "hope it goes over the wifi network....".   After all they are selling a product where they say it will do that.     Now, fine,  I understand something is screwy going on in my phone apparently which will prohibit me from using it to run trains.  Okay, that is the anomaly.   That won't last forever, at some point I will get a new phone or find another device and hopefully that one will work.

Good news is I have a remote, which I actually prefer, but realize that won't last forever either.   Need to fix the take off racing problem when I do use the app though.

Again, thanks to everyone.  Hopefully, this wasn't a complete waste of time.  Maybe someone else learned something as well.   I don't think anyone ever started with... well it could be your phone.
