I have an older C&NW 4-6-4 Hudson that came command ready.  After upgrading it with command and Railsounds, I use my Legacy Cab 2 and find that even though it has a maintenance Free Can motor, I spin the dial on my Cab 2 just to get it to move.  After several revollutions it leaps and will settle. It goes ok, but takes a lot of voltage to get it going.  But any minor changes it slows and sometimes to a stop, and I repeat the revollutions on the dial to get it going.  I tried to set the stall (it is equiped with stall.....the light blinks) but just can't be set.  It's like it is possessed!  It's a beautiful engine, but does not have Odyessy.  I have a Boston&Maine that is equipped similar, and will chug very slow with little effort from the rotations on my legacy.  Can someone suggest some ideas?  Perhaps the motherboard?  Why so much voltage to get it going?

I would make sure you got the right boards.  On my first upgrade of a command ready Alco C420 I got the wrong board from my supplier even though I gave him all the correct info, I forget which board, and it was a clustercluck till a forum member suggested I got the wrong board.  My C420 had all new technology for the time, same circa as yours, consisting of LED lights, and it had to be the specific command ready board to make everything right.  Since the use of can motors along with TMCC was kind of new to Lionel engines in '99, I suspect you have a wrong board, not one designed specifically for a 'command ready' engine.

BTW- I'm still buddies with my parts supplier and have bought a bunch more conversion parts from him since, including another command ready C420.  That one went a whole lot smoother.  It should be plug and play, so I stand by my conclusion.  Doublecheck the boards you installed.  Good Luck.
