So i bought a set last year and the locomotive was in really bad shape and i had to throw it away. Just now im thinking of getting the locomotive for the set. All i need is the locomotive, no tender or anything. The set is the Rock Island Line set from 1976 and heres a pic of the locomotive from the box. Would prefer if it worked, but i kept the motor for it cause why not.

Do a search for "rock island 0-4-0" on eBay. You have choices.
Must have been really bad if you had to throw away the old engine.
I had a few of these as parts sources for my first Lionel set--the one you have pictured. The most common malady I find with these locos is either missing boiler fronts, or broken siderod guides (a bracket that attaches to the front of the motor)
I've been considering having both parts reproduced to make these various units operable (my original is still functional...after a motor transplant necessitated by its driver gears wearing out). I'd either have to make rubber molds from my intact examples, or learn CAD and design replicas that can be 3D printed.

I have one in good shape I'm selling with the tender. Otherwise I'll check as I may have another just the engine but I can guarantee it won't have the boiler front. I could use about 20 boiler fronts if someone ever had them.

This is really late but do you still have the engine? Engine and tender would be just fine as long as they work and I've got a boiler front
