My 10'-by-5' under construction 3-rail layout is supposed to resemble New England and upstate New York, so I mostly run equipment from the New Haven, Boston & Maine, and New York Central railroads. Today, I ran my Weaver die-cast Boston & Maine 2-8-0 steam engine model of #2403 which I bought at least ten years ago and had not run since. The engine sounds came on immediately at power-up but it was reluctant to move. So, I took it off the track and attached test leads to the frame and pickup roller. With no load, the wheels began to turn. Back it went onto the layout pulling a short freight and a B&M caboose. Since the layout is small, I run short trains and small engines - at peddler freight speeds. The steam sounds and whistle on this engine are as good as on any other locomotive that I own. The Weaver model has a Baldwin Locomotive Works builder’s plate, but the full scale B&M #2403 was built by ALCO in 1910. Nothing is perfect. But this is a nice model. Some pictures attached.
