How do you know it even had speed control? 

Depends on the issue, I have an RS3 that has EOB, one of their last offering of EOB.   I thought you could see the tack strip through the open cab, but it must be on the front motor.   If it is EOB it could be turned off, which is done with the Cab 1 controller.

well,i im not sure,i assumed with tmcc, engines would maintain same speed on upgrades and downgrades,most of my high tech engines are mth dcs,just getting into tmcc,how would you find out if its equipped with speed control?

gunrunner,i have 2 mth camelbacks that cant negotiate o-31 curves,they where cataloged as such,but even with replacing track ,still have this issue,gonna replace lionels tubular o31 with gargraves 032 curves but am wondering if they only run on o42 and larger radius curves

Nope, lots of TMCC stuff did not have cruise.

EOB, Engineer on Board, was a TAS, Train America Studio, (Mike Reegan), speed control that used a tack-reader strip on one of the flywheels to control speed.  There was a fair amount of detail on install/operation manuals that came with this stuff on the TMCC part of this forum.  Click on the underlined.

TMCC and a lot of different revisions and upgrades have been available since the late 1990's.    EOB speed control in some Atlas products, may be as early as 2004.  Lionel also did an Odyssey speed control early 2000's.   A lot of Sunset, Third rail, Atlas, and Weaver, (SAW Group) had Lionel approved uses of TMCC in a lesser grade product.

called lionel,spoke with a tech who told me all tmcc had speed control,lol,so I ran a kline Lackawanna trainmaster w/tmcc to see if that kept a constant speed,alas,that did not,so after I receive my atlas erie rs3,tmcc w/cruise,my tmcc adventures will be over,i thinking of sticking with mth motive power as I never had issues like this with their stuff,thanks again for all replys

I don't know who you talked to at Lionel, but he's all wet!  Many of the TMCC locomotives lack speed control.  In addition, Lionel produced many AC motored TMCC locomotives, none of them had speed control. 

All Lionel Engines have speed control.  Otherwise it would be full speed ahead, what they lack is CRUISE Control.

Engines with DCDR or ACDR (depending on AC or DC motors) do not have cruise control.  Engines with ODY or After market products like TAS or ERR can have cruise control.

Check you owners manual. 

Some of the ODY engines lose their cruise control when the magnet comes apart.
