A friend of mine has a Weaver PRR M1-a. Conventional with qsi protosounds 1. He blew the motor; with Weaver out of business anyone have an idea where he can get a replacement motor that would fit Weaver PRR M1-A?

I have a US Made Pittman motor out of a horizontal Weaver drive setup and its like brand new but it may not fit the newer Weaver setup.
I'm following. I have a u25b and I need a gear set.
Did you try to Google Timko Train Repair? They would have a nice can motor for your loco.
Timko Train repair can remove the existing worm gear and flywheel from the failed motor and install them on a new one.
The M1a/b was one of the first Weaver brass offerings. The motor was a power hog, and many were replaced.
Bob, you should track down and contact Bob Lavezzi (from Linden, NJ, I believe). He purchased a good portion of Weaver's OEM parts inventory when they closed up. He was set up at a local train show here in MA a couple months ago and still had a ton of Weaver replacement parts, including motors...I’m just not sure which engines they were for. Certainly worth a try!
Bob Lavezzi is very active in the NY Society of Model Engineers. His contact I think through the club is
oscale1@comcast.net ( I think this is the club site)
I have reached him at one of the following numbers too:
201-939-9212 or cell 908-337-7532
He had a lot of parts still in stock when I saw him at the November Show.

I have the same exact engine and problem. About a year ago I had the engine upgraded to full ERR with Super chuff. It works like a charm for the first 10-12 minutes then the motor always overheats and the engine slows to a crawl. I contacted Bob Bartizek in Cincinnati who has done a number of Weaver up grades and he gave me the same feedback as MikeCT offered. I had my ERR upgrade done by Alex Malliae, now in Freehold NJ. He said there are numerous possibilities to replace the motor using Pittman or Lionel motors. Soon as I can get him the engine he will replace the motor. He needs first to measure the can motor diameter and length in millimeters to make sure of a good fit. Suggest you contact Alex. If interested contact me by email s4steve@optonline.net.

has anyone had similar problems with the brass Weaver Dreyfus Hudson??
I had a similar issue with a Weaver, I found a suitable motor on eBay to replace the bad one. I used the Mabuchi RS-555PH.
