Here is our 'new' Legacy C&O Berkshire that we ran for the first time this afternoon at the club layout under construction.

She's really a beauty!

We had the earlier Erie No 3315 for awhile this spring and had traded it off but I found I really missed the Berk. Now we've found its replacement!

The Erie model was made in Korea. Is this C&O made there as well or in China? And if so, are there any differences?

It is autumn of 1950 in the rural town of Beawslaiw.  This small community is located somewhere between San Francisco and Los Angeles on the Southern Pacific main line.  The town is also the home of the Brisbane and Bushong Railroad.  The branch line has their offices and a rail yard right in town.  There is also a train station that services passengers for both railroads.

Every year the townsfolk get together for the pumpkin harvest.  Farmer Bill owns a small patch of land in between the mail line tracks and the state highway.  He plants a few rows of pumpkins.  When they are big and ripe he invites the citizens to pick their own.  As the “harvest” begins, an SP AS-616 rolls past with a box car while en route to the Double Tracks Rail Yard. There will be lots of pumpkin pies for the holidays in Beawslaiw!

A handsomely modeled idea, Matt - really sharp! This shot is my favorite. Every element is in "conversation" with the other elements, and the whole composition makes a symphony with the train passing by. Wonderful. You've captured the enjoyment of having realism on a train layout along with the joy of having the trains themselves. IMHO.

That series of pumpkin festival photos from Matt would have made a fine "Rail Tales" feature for our October issue of the magazine.  And if they are available in hi-res versions, it's not too late for next year's issue if he cares to submit them (just send me an e-mail).  An easy way to make $200 and to share these fine photos with many more O gauge fans.
