Weekend Photo Fun York Edition 10-17-13!

Two club members and wives made the trip but the rest of us are stuck back here!

Went 'Railfanning' instead and was able to get some nice photos of Lionel No 5511 at the club layout this morning.  This is one of my favorite locomotives pulling a set of RK 'Fleet of Modernism' cars with passengers added. Very pretty set.

Here's my 7-Eleven, just completed earlier this evening.  I always wanted a 7-Eleven for the layout and  this represents my first kit-bash (it started as a K-line kit) - overall I'm pleased.  The lighted 7-Eleven sign does look more convincing in real life than in the pictures.

Last weekend I was in PA chasing and riding behind Reading & Northern #425.

I love the 7-11.  I wish I could find the pics there is a guy online who built a miniature 7-11.  He took pics in a real store and use those tho make the interior.  He lighted the inside with a micro florescent lamp to make it look real.  It was amazing.  I want to do something like that for my K line kit some day.

Who does not love the warbonnet.

Spent a lot of time cultivating weeds.  These are the ones I did inside:

John - that picture is so realistic I did a few double-takes.  You really nailed everything - the stonework, the weeds, the motive power, the sky and lighting, and the illusion of catenary.  A beautiful photo of incredibly realistic modeling.

What does Abby think of the trains?

She got scared when I blew a whistle & jumped down.  She sat on a chair after that & watched them go around for a bit.   Keep in mind I found her next to the NS main line in PA, so she has seen real trains too.  She didn't mind those either

Finally let Abby in the train room this week -

Chris - When you admitted that tuning a Ric 12 is a miserable experience I had a hunch.

As I viewed the photos of your postwar trains my hunch became an impression.

By the time you showed us the shots of Lucia digging the trains I was pretty sure, and when you gave me the photo infos from your D-5100 shots I was even more sure.

But when you rescued Abby from beside those prototype rails I knew for certain - You are one of the good guys.  The world need more like you.

BTW, the Ric-12 is STILL not any fun to tune

I had to let my Martin D35-12 go even though it sounded fabulous at such times that I actually managed to tune the thang.

My newly "finished" Atlas ice house and loading platform. I say "finished", because it will be weathered slightly, and added to a 2' X 8' 2 rail diorama that I'm building for a local ice carving and harvesting museum here in NE PA.

Thank you for the compliment!  I thought the interior came out pretty well myself... my daughter was quite pleased that the Slurpee machine was included (and that my mini 7-eleven has a potty, which is a big deal when you are 3).

Thank you for posting the link/pics to the other 7-eleven build.  That one was actually the inspiration for mine, and I "borrowed" several of the features discussed in the link.  The Miller mini flouresecant lights, for example,  really make the model look great when lit.  I also used actual pictures for a couple parts of the interior (some shelving, ATM, and the Slurpee machine).  Didn't quite do as well on the exterior sign, though... I may re-attempt that at some point to get more even distrubuted/diffused lighting.

Hi J Daddy,

sure, I've been slowly weathering it. Basically I used flat spray cans to paint sub-assemblies. I used Rustoleum Camoflage Khaki to represent the concrete bases, Rustoleum Rusty Metal Primer for the wood decks and beams, and Rustoleum "Painter's Choice" gray primer for the roof parts. The white main structure and small office were painted with Krylon Dual Paint and Primer White. The rest of the painting is still on-going, painting details like the clerestory vents, a rusty color, and dusting rust chalk down the roof. The kit goes together well, and I test fitted, and assembled the deck sections, then painted them. The pieces have close tolerances, and when I glued the upper roof of the platform and the supporting beams, I had to slightly file the holes and notches of the lower. I'll try and take some more photos as I go along. There's also a thread about it on the 2-rail forum, (with other's photos of the kit),where I asked about the kit, as it's a two rail diorama that I'm building. I usually run three rail postwar and modern.

It was a great York!!! And while there rode behind the YORK, magnificent engine and just a short drive south of York in New Freedom, PA and the ride is a modelers delight great Eastern scenery!!!!

Enjoyed a delicious hot dog for my Friday York lunch.

Left the Fairgrounds at 6PM and avoided the Balto-DC traffic.

Woke up in time to be part of our modular group display at Midlothian Days (Midlothian is a town west of Richmond in Chesterfield County).

Alan is being very diligent at getting ads.....he hired me as a billboard!

Here is the back of No. 17, the YORK. She looks good from any angle. She rolled out of [David] Kloke Locomotive Works, Elgin, IL, in May 2013!

The Reader Railroad in Arkansas built the wooden combine and coach.

This would make a terrific Lionel GENERAL set.
