That derrick has been played with a lot! Looks like you repainted the boom already. That's how they do it on the real railroad; no time to take the whole unit out of commission. You paint on the fly only to protect the asset.

alas,the collectors conundrum,,,,the k-4 like the wide curves on the fastrak,but not the switches,,it likes the switches on on the tube track,but not the 032 curves,,,so the easiest was to take up the tube track and replace with some af ogauge curves I have ,dirty but for 80yr track,,not bad,even had a set of af switches,so now I have to add like 6 inches along one side,,as the 40's take up more room,,that got me to thinking I could buy new 042 tube track and use either the af switches or the 022,but on the other hand with original af track and switches I like that idea also,,hummmmIMGP2114IMGP2115IMGP2116

The dealer at the show that had this had several cabs and booms and one frame. The boom I picked was more complete than the other one, and already repainted.

Not sure which gear you mean, but I found numbers for the two mine is missing, Jeff Kane stocks both, $8.50 each (of course they are higher on the bay)

Thanks. Olsen's has the diagram. I need the 810-31D worm gear to mesh with the drum gear. I ordered it from Sharon.

A little short of 2 feet.  I'll be running them on a rather large STD72 loop.  Still, it's a little disconcerting to unbox these things.  They are enormous.

Agreed, I am very nervous when unpacking my larger items.  I take my time and I put on my cotton gloves and a handle them with much care.  While these are huge

You almost need to find an original boom to match the rest of the crane.  I bet you could make some hand rails out of music wire and they would age and match quickly.  Or, go work on the Mopar, get your hands grimey black and then handle the boom a good bit, then give it a dullcote!    Just kidding, it looks good as it is.

 

I'm going to have the same problem with my Dorfan crane since I wanted to keep the cab and roof original.  The boom is practically paint-free at this point and I have to paint it... It just won't look right.

yeah, I've got a new set of ceramic coated headers that need to go on the road runner..but anytime I try to get to the garage I sink down to my ankles in the oatmeal that used to be my back yard. 

Yeah, Dave, You may get some winds and rain today, turned my yard into a mushy lake also yesterday...  Ceramic coated headers =$$$$ That's a lot of trains!
