What if you have the engine in doppler mode and get busy and forget about the engine and  it's left parked on the layout . The remote goes to sleep, This is the scenario at a open house last week.. After everyone left ,we  noticed the engine had very week sounds so we tried a feature reset a number of times. no go. With 6 or 7 remotes  I don't think we picked up the remote that the engine was   last  run with. After reading about early 5 volt system speakers going bad , I figured that was it. However  the fix was to turn the doppler on and off again and sounds returned to normal... Why didn't a feature reset restore the sounds with a different remote?   Weird!!  I guess   my point is... perhaps this is another thing to try when sounds go a muck.

As my equipment list grows, there seems to be new issues that pop up. If I just were to post them here, guys would say it's my layout's signal or something like that. I believe that when things get more complicated, the software issues can creep in. You have to be more open to try new things and think outside the box. I'm glad you posted this. I still use your suggestion of the loader to find the engine's address loaded on the board.

Sometimes one of my engine's sounds won't return after signal tests. Sometimes the engine won't move and it needs a restart or more. Things pop up and you have to get creative to solve it. I'm not bashing the system because I truly think it's the best one out there. I just think there are software weaknesses that get glossed over as a freak occurrence.

OK, after all that, and again, thanks for sharing.
