I would try Evan Designs Universal warm LED for a replacement headlamp bulb.
I just recently replaced both pairs of headlamps in an MTH GP30 with their warm white 3mm universal LEDs and I am very happy with the results. They are much brighter (more prototypical) than the original incandescent bulb and will last much longer. I bought 10 pairs so that I can replace the headlamps in 10 MTH Diesel locomotives. Probably should do the ditch lights, too.
