If I could only keep one loco.....It'd be my PRR T1. I know you guys are looking for the new Lionel version.........but I can only show mine old Weaver.....

PRRT1D

Wait...I do own a Lionel PRR T1.....Lionmaster......but it's put away as it arrived without headlight or smoke and no one wanted to fix it....so it lives in a box.

FRED......great footage of the T1 outside.....I bought 2 cases of Gargraves SS track but gave up on outdoor.

Long story short......It is still the most I ever spent on a loco alone. A big online train seller sold me the Lionmaster.......they didn't want me to return it to them but send it to Lionel in Ohio. $50 to and $50 return shipping.......I just spent $600 on the thing.....it became a fight I lost and thus is now just a bad reminder. Worse purchase I ever made.  I'd sell it but what is a broken Lionmaster worth??? Not going to take a total bath on it. thx

Never sent it.......I thought it was insane I had to spend $100 to fix a $600 loco that was hours old....as said a fight I lost. thx

Oh after parts if you did it yourself you probley have at least 60 more to fix  ..I would fix it and run it or sell it .You  probley could still get decent money for it  .. Is it a tmcc or legacy one ?

Looks like a few missed / incorrect details on this model.   The headlight should have been centered on the smokebox door as seen here....

Also, the designation under the cab window and below the number should be T1 , not H as shown in the photo in the post above.

Here are a few additional photos of the real engine for comparison ...

Ok, let's not get this thread deleted too... I would like to see more photos of the other versions!

Exactly... Since fewer of us are pre-ordering nowadays, we need to SEE and HEAR the stuff before we spend our hard-earned dollars.

David

Someone is preordering these things because they keep producing it.

Judging by the catalog illustrations, Lionel did NOT lie to us about the headlight. If you compare the images of the MTH Chessie T-1 and the Lionel, the headlight is perched higher on the latter. Yes, Lionel probably should've looked at photos better for the most accuracy, but honestly this is not a deal breaker. It's still a gorgeous looking engine and the new tooling used on this engine looks terrific.

I wouldn't doubt it.  I shake my head... but I don't doubt that some folks would order these even if Lionel increased the price by $500.    And if it makes them happy, that's all that counts.  Of course, dealers continue to order LOTS of BTO extra's... and as long as that continues, everything is really business-as-usual.  I haven't missed out on a single BTO item that I decided to purchase AFTER Lionel delivered the goods.  The last big-ticket item I pre-ordered was the FEF a few years ago... and I could kick myself for even pre-ordering that one.  I still don't know why I did it.  But hey, nobody's perfect and we all make mistakes.

Like everything else I've purchased recently... had I waited to purchase the FEF-3 afterwards, I could have paid less than the dealer pre-order prices.  Have you looked around lately?  Even Charlie Ro is trying to blow out (or close to it) the different NYC ESE Hudsons.  And a couple of dealers are offering sales on the VisionLine GG-1 that just shipped, so those can be had now for less than Lionel's MAP which was $1190 give or take a few dollars.

Now after a few years tick by, more folks are gonna connect the dots.  And that's gotta become a bit of a conundrum for Lionel and its dealers.  But of course, Lionel is already out of the equation at this point, since the products are now sitting in dealer inventory -- not Lionel's warehouse.  So if the dealers offer a 15% discount with free shipping, that's all coming out of the dealer's piece of the action.    Lionel has already made their money on the deal.

Only if dealers stop ordering BTO extra's will the dynamics of waiting things out change.

To my eyes, the T-1 is not a particularly detailed steamer even in the prototype pics.  So the real proof is to see a side-by-side comparison of this T-1 with MTH's current T-1.  Or better yet, I'd love to see a comparison of Lionel's new T-1 vs. the Lionel T-1 that Mike Wolf produced for Lionel's Dick Kughn back in the day.  Of course, even if the older tooling holds its own compared to the new tooling, the sound on the new model alone will surely blow away Railsounds of the 1980's/1990's.
