1) This is Ives (missing a railing):

2) This one is Bing (sand-filled weighted base):

PICT0021

3) Anybody have an idea who made this one (pre-electric, no bulb sockets)?

PICT0020

All three are about the same size, about 14" to 16" tall, Gauge 1 or Standard Gauge.

#3 has no identifying markings I can see.  #3's stepped base is die cast, the rest is tinplate.

Thanks!

Eric, thank you.  Actually, my Ives semaphore (photo #1) I know to be a #302 Ives: see the attached scan of my dad's original 1923 Ives catalog; this is confirmed by Greenberg. The same listing and number appears in the 1926 catalog.

Now that I know what to look for, I was able to find the Ives #109 semaphore with the stepped base pictured in Greenberg.   Thanks!  As you say, it is an earlier version.  Puzzle solved!

I'm glad that I responded to this post, because I've learned a bit more about my own example as well. I based my original response on my Greenberg Ives Wide Gauge book and it had only a limited number of examples.

Ron M: I belong to the Ives Society and I'm curious about your CD reference. Is that CD still available from the Society?
