Wig-Wag lights

So sitting around playing with my new Lionel 2233501 US ARMY LEGACY ‘NIGHTHAWK’ ES44AC (fantastic detail BTW), I noticed that the pilot lights go into 'wig wag' mode after it travels about 10 seconds on the layout. Is this normal? Does it go back into normal node once underway?
