IMG_0005imageI got a Williams New Haven 027 Alco for Christmas.  The paint and lettering is first rate.  It runs well and looks great hauling a string of small Lionel Lines passenger cars.  I'm sure Bachmann had lots of requests to offer this engine.

However, there are a few things that Bachmann needs to step it up on with their products.  First the rear coupler would not stay closed, I hate to say this but that shows a lack of quality control.  Second, the diesel soundboard makes me feel that I'm hard of hearing.  You can hardly hear it when the engine is moving.  No excuse for this poor design.  And yes I turned the screw on the soundboard up to its max.  There is no comparison to the level of sound produced by my Lionchief engines.

I own around 15 WBB engines, they run great.  Unless they improve their sound system I will pass on them in the future.

I'm not a fan of Lionchief and no I have never owned one either it's the concept of a separate remote for each type of engine. The newer Williams I know nothing about Mine are either just as Bachmann took them over or before Bachmann. I never liked the horn with Williams where it was preset for a crossing But with the price at the time they where ideal to buy and convert to TMCC With Railsound. My Southern A-B-A set is old Williams it has the QSI sound system in it where it has engine sounds and engine xxxx ( i forget actual number ) departing.

As a whole I look at or should say I use to look at Williams as a good product at a entry level but knew when Bachmann took over that would be gone I don't see the quality but do see the increase in price and know everything has gone up so can't completely blame them but it's funny what they say is suggested retail price and what a lot of dealers actually sell them for is a big difference.

also your photo isn't showing
