no septa, maybe next time.
It’s interesting to see the Long Island Railroad and MTA mentioned! I’m hoping that means that Lionel got the GP38-2 Premier tooling from MTH. Some LIRR GP38’s with Legacy would be awesome!!
Milwaukee Road and Hiawatha, Burlington, Clinchfield.
No UP or am I blind?

Could be some new F40's in this catalog!
Okay. I'll play. No Norfolk Southern, Penn Central, Union Pacific, or SP?
Doesn't matter much to me as it is highly unlikely there will be any items that interest me, but I don't mind surprises!

They don't have those licenses on the other catalogs either. But anyway, I still hope for a Milwaukee Road auxiliary tender & RPCX tool car in there too.

I gotta say, I’m impressed there haven’t been any leaks all the way up to the catalog release apart from what Lionel meant to leak out. They’ve managed to keep info locked up tight this time! I can’t even remember the last time there were no leaks preceding an upcoming catalog...
MrMuffin’s Trains has all the Vision Line Class A’s available for preorder on their website with pictures!! Also saw some F9 diesels 😲
The MSRP for the Class A is honestly less than I expected

I don’t know but they are Canadian and they look great. So I’m happy but sad because I don’t think I can get them all. There are some CN veteran tribute locomotives as well. I guess after the fiasco with the disaster that was MTH’s veteran engine Lionel said: “Hold my beer and watch this.”
Just got this email this morning from Lionel...
Wishes for this catalog are no longer being accepted. All further wishes should be forwarded to the next "Wish List for the Next Lionel Catalog" thread. Please keep in mind that wishes may take several catalog cycles before being granted due to the fact that the next catalog is probably already done so technically all wishes from here forward will at the earliest be granted in the 2023 Volume 1 catalog. Also Lionel has a policy of not accepting suggestions but wishes are always welcome. Please remember not all wishes come true either. If you wish to speak to someone about a wish that was not granted please email the genie in the wish department. We are located across the hall from Lenny the Lion.

Based on some of Ryan's past comments about 2022 Volume 1 and paraphrasing Yoda, "...Amtrak is strong with this one."
Santa Fe 2-10-4s? ****. I must have at least 1. Even though I just bought a 3rd Rail version on the Bay. Hope it at least has whistle steam and some other cool features for that price.
Other than that, looks like my wallet is in the clear. I usually get every VL but the Class A isn’t speaking to me. But I’ll probably change my mind if the “mystery feature” is really good.
Having reviewed the above "Muffin" listings for a previous hour, I am much impressed with the variety of Military and Veteran inspired diesel themes at a variety of multiple price points.
May I offer a twenty gun salute to Lionel for their Veteran support.
Do the manufacturers come out with similar things at around the same time to block each other, or because they think the complimentary items actually increase their sales, or a little bit of both? MTH/Atlas does a 44 tonner and now Lionel has one. Scott Mann is coming out with Amtrak locomotives and beautiful scale passenger cars from GGD and Lionel goes hard on Amtrak from roughly the same period in this catalog. Lionel and MTH each came out with a Santa Fe “gold bonnet” Alco PA and cars set at around the same time.
Mind you, the choice is great for us…and It often works beautifully…I can’t wait to see my VL Daylight GS3 pull Scott’s Daylight passenger cars. But I don’t get the thinking behind having the exact same thing like the 44 tonner or gold bonnet PA set within months of another manufacturer.

I see the MTH tooled 0-6-0 engines and Bobber cabooses. I was hoping the 0-4-0 engines were also from the MTH tooling, but they look like Lionel's versions. Same with the 4-4-2 Atlantics.

If the listings on Mrmuffins are pretty much everything, I’m…..underwhelmed. There is nothing for traditional or semi scale folks……no new lionchief plus 2.0 steam, no new lionmaster steam. I guess if you don’t have a scale layout, Lionel doesn’t much care for your business. I honestly thought they would try to fill the Railking void……but it looks like they don’t plan to.

Traditional items (including conventional and the Lionel Chief Plus line) as well as Christmas items and some of the branded offerings are supposed to be listed separately. The word was that the print catalog would have the VL, Legacy, and higher end stuff with all others online only.
So, plenty more to come.
I think I have this right?

To slap the CP tribute paint schemes on an SD90 is just plain lazy. No sale for me there, but I'm sure it will sell.

OK, yes I know some were 45 tonners, if not all. But Lionel etc. always makes fantacy engines that RRs never had, just like generic 10-wheelers. So even if the side rods work, but do not actually power the engine, the look would be there. Here's a shot of our 45 tonner.

It’s really a shame that Lionel isn’t doing Warbonnet F units. I got really excited when I saw Santa Fe F units on the dealer list, only to see Yellowbonnet F units. What a missed opportunity.
I noticed the new catalog had the old Lionel Atlantic and A-5 locomotives. I hope this doesn't mean they passed on the tooling for these. Maybe the ones in the catalog were already planned a while ago. Or maybe they thought MTH's version was too similar.
@vash44 posted:Agreed. Would of bought them all. Passing on all of them because they’re on the wrong locomotive.
All I know is, they look great, veteran themed trains are popular, with he CP is a popular road name and I am going to get a couple of locomotives. My guess is this will be a big hit for Lionel.

Red Warbonnet F units had never been made in Legacy until 2017v2. They were very popular. I suspect they’ll be back around.

Just sent the suggestion to MrMuffin to do some boxcar logo and/or non-boxcar logo CSX ES44AH units. Lionel only finally did one with correct headlight position and truck frames in 2020 but in just one special #3010 road number along with the heritage units. Lets get some generic units to fill up those rosters!
Along with the lack of a Warbonnet ATSF F7, sometimes I'm left scratching my head at Lionel's choices. That said, they have some really nice offerings this time around.

I know there are several people here on OGR that would love to see this Central Maine and Quebec locomotive. Technically it is GE AC4400CW, not an ES44AH. But I don't really care. Steve! Please consider this locomotive as a special run!!
@Alec_6460 posted:I admire your restraint…but if its WW2 era ATSF steam I have to have at least 1. Addictions/collections are a terrible problem…
I wouldn't say that I have "restraint" with ATSF steam, as I have:
Premier 5001 class 2-10-4 (made from a Premier 5011 class with a 20K gallon tender and outside bearing pilot truck) (5009)
Premier 5011 class 2-10-4 (5025)
Two Premier 2900 class 4-8-4s (2903, 2921)
Legacy 3751 class 4-8-4 (3759)
Four Premier 3460 class Hudsons (3460 Blue Goose, 3463, 3464, 3465)
Premier 3129 class 2-8-2 (made from a Premier USRA Mikado)
Enough parts to cobble together another Premier 5011 class 2-10-4.
So no restraint 😄.
But back to the catalog. The 5011 class 2-10-4 Lionel is making, adjusted for inflation, is only $100ish more than what MTH charged for it when they last produced it in 2005. So I'm kinda surprised it didn't really go up in price all that much in 17 years. You'll get whistle steam with the Lionel model, but the older MTH model will have a nice, big, 9434 Pittman motor. I'd rather have the Pittman than whistle steam, but to each is own.

I just sent the following to Steve to piggy back on your request:
"I would like to make a request for a special run of Central Maine and Québec #1006
I saw on OGR someone has already contacted you about doing a special run of ES44AH units. Although the Central Maine and Québec #1006 is an AC44W I believe the locomotives are close enough to make it work. Others on OGR expressed interest in purchasing this locomotive."
Wow, I just noticed that Lionel has made my wish come true, the 0-4-0 Steam Switcher with slope back tender, B&O. Thank you Lionel. Now I’m hoping to get a deal on an early order price,BTO. Happy Railroading Everyone (there’s lots to review in this new 2022 catalog.
I came away unscathed. Good thing too. Have a 3rd rail E1 coming anytime and I pre-ordered his Amtrak and the cars.
The new base is interesting. I’ll pass. 4 number address seems like the most obvious. Would be better without creating 2 digit and trying to remember it. The ZW-L is just one penny short of a grand! Ouch. Rocket Train is cool. Good variety.

I’d definitely buy. Need some generic CSX locomotives to pair with my heritage unit. Was hoping they would come out with a tier IV gevo this catalog but guess not.
Well, at least one of our wallets is in for a world of hurt: MINE.
Between the Amtrak Cabbages, the CSX business train (I wish one of the F40s was a dummy at least), the 1218, the rocket train idler car pack, and an assortment of unique cars like the chapel car, and various cars that would fill in some gaps (Amtrak heritage diner, Ford Mustang boxcar, RailBox, ADM), I'm in trouble. I suppose I should count my blessings that a legacy (or God forbid a Vision) 1309 or Amtrak Charger or Sprinter wasn't in the catalog. The Base3 is tempting, although there's no "killer" feature that's pushing it to the top of my list.
As for the catalog itself, I think it was a good showing. There was a good mix of scale and semi-scale, and there were some good, positive, creative new liveries. I'm delighted to see that Lionel bought the MTH rocket train tooling. I hope some of the other unique MTH toolings found homes, too (European steam, Aerotrain, etc). I think the Atlantics look good, I was glad to see some Doodlebugs (although I wish they had at least TMCC capability, which they don't), and those 0-4-0 slopebacks are tempting.
As for areas that I think could be improved, I really wish the Lionel would specifically call out which "new" products are acquired MTH toolings just so those of us who are familiar with that tooling can gauge how those items would mesh into our existing collections. I'm also confused by the All New Product banner--it's on items like the 1218, which is brand new, but it's also on things like the Berkshire, which Lionel has produced before. Maybe it's just new liveries or new road numbers? I wish they'd be more clear about that. I also noticed that there's a "New Tooling" label on the 2-10-4, but it's completely missing from the 1218 spread. I wonder if this was a mistake, or if the 2-10-4 is, in fact, new tooling.
And lastly, the Cab3 app situation doesn't seem to be fully baked yet, and I'm worried about the direction in which it may head. Firstly, there's no mention as to whether or not it's a universal app for iOS devices (meaning it works on iPhones, iPod touches, and iPads) or if it's just an iPhone/iPod touch app. The screenshots and abstract don't mention iPads at all, and that's concerning if this is supposed to replace the LCS app, especially given the minimal amount of effort it takes to add iPad optimization. Even more concerning, however, is that it appears that the new Cab3 app won't control legacy/TMCC engines without the Base3. I hope I'm terribly mistaken about that, but if it's true, and if Lionel doesn't update the iCab or LCS apps (iPhone and iPad, respectively), those apps are woefully out of date and I'm worried that they may stop working on future versions of iOS. Again, I hope I'm wrong and that the new Cab3 app will work with the older legacy hardware.
Bottom line, though, I'm in for some new rolling stock, and I'm excited.
Rafi
Since the SOO LINE GP30 diesels were produced and the SOO LINE RS-27 diesels and F7 AA, B, B diesel locomotives have been announced they will need to produce a few more matching freight cars.
The people at LIONEL going to have to make all 18 road numbers of the SOO LINE 57' Mechanical refrigerator cars built in 1965 and 1969 by Pacific Car & Foundry, over 4 years using the LionScale 57' Mechanical Refrigerator cars and the imported 57' mechanical reefers with sound & lights.
They have not had an O scale SOO LINE gondola produced in one or more of the various 1960's era schemes of the SOO LINE.

I just became aware that the new "Reading" cars are the actual arched roof type and are quite accurately scaled. I've been hoping for these cars to be produced for years and missed the whole thing thanks to Lionel's photos, as reproduced in their online catalogs. I skimmed over them because all black roofs look the same to these old eyes unless I blow them waaay up. They appear to be wonderful cars but The RDG cars seem to be sold out.
Fearing redundancy, I've scanned this "Topic" looking for the suggestion that these cars be produced in CNJ colors but didn't see any. Other than Reading and the roads to which they were distributed, the CNJ was the only Class One that owned and operated them. It seems funny that tourist lines, albeit RDG spinoffs, should trump THE BIG LITTLE RAILROAD.

Yes, those were hugely popular. I think the particular loco itself drew lots of attention AND they were also one of the first of the new Lion Chief Plus 2.0 line. Lots of electronics in a small space.
As I recall, a good number of forum posters even purchased more than one.

1. Coil Cars from the KLine tooling - Penn Central w three road numbers
2. More eight door 86' Autoparts Box Cars - D&TSL, IC or ICG and EL
Even though the new catalog is still fresh I’ll jump in with what I’d like to see next. Some repeat I’ve with prior requests.
Legacy PRR decapods (multiple road #s and both tender variations) with whistle steam and swinging bell
vision line triplex
Legacy blue comet set with whistle steam and swinging bell
Legacy PRR T1 with whistle steam
I feel as though a good number of the things mentioned have been done within the past 10-15 years (not all of them of course - there are certainly some random road names and such). However, I’ve been waiting for a NYC 20th Century Limited for FOREVER!! A Dreyfus Hudson with 1938 scheme (blue stripe) hasn’t been done in this century! Was last slated for 2008 production and mysteriously cancelled…. It’s obviously a highly sought after set yet catalog after catalog come out with reruns of the same old items stuffed with slightly modified tech. Hey Lionel…!!! MAKE A DREYFUS AND MATCHING 1938 CARS!!!!!
I would like to see a weathered and worse for wear workhorse USRA steam engine. I have all the class A stuff I need.
Yes to a Legacy Virginian triplex and 3-4 N and W auxiliary water tenders
Since we are dreaming, a Lionel postwar inspired N&W 746 with LionChief Plus 2.0 for me.
**** Yes A vision line Dreyfus Hudson with 1938 passenger cars WITH correct interiors
Don't get me wrong this catalog's Post War style military cars are cool, but how about some regular "US Army/Airforce/Navy/Marines" freight cars? We've had the sharknoses and turbine from the previous two catalogs, and now in this one we've got an 0-4-0 and an ES44, but barely anything to throw behind them save these traditional cars. A few flatbeds with some tanks or some regular boxcars and tankers would be perfect.

Sure… and add in some Canadian military freight cars as well.
