FYI – this takes the cake for railroad crossing stupidity:

The gates were down and she walked around the gates while the train was already moving through the crossing.  And people like this are allowed to vote!

She'll sue CSX. You can count on that.

Heck, I watched someone walk right off a 4-foot wall while texting at lunch a couple of hours ago. She walked right over the side and did a face plant onto the concrete. Thankfully she seemed to shake it off and walk on, not realizing that I saw her from across the parking lot. It was tough not to laugh loud enough for her to hear...

Why should this be the manufacturers' responsibility? Our society doesn't accept personal responsibility anymore. This is an epidemic, and quite honestly, I don't know what the solution is. When my son was participating in our church choir, he would be texting while playing percussion. Never missed a beat or a text, but I just don't get it. why this need for constant contact? Are these people capable of carrying on a normal face to face conversation?

"Why should this be the manufacturers' responsibility?"...because she might be able to make a few bucks with it. It's all about the money. Entitled, loser attitude and I totally agree with you rail.

I'm planning to be down in Winter Haven to tour CSX's brand new transfer facility (not the official name for it) on Thursday. I'll see if I can get some pics to post. Three new cranes and I am looking forward to seeing it up close.

Some people are oblivious to any external stimuli. There have been many instances of people being hit and killed while walkin along the tracks, and not hearing even an air horn. Let me tell you how loud an air horn is: Iwas working in Mountain Top Pa at the MK Rail facility resurfacing a draft gear pocket on a locomotive with leather enclosed welding helmut with ear plugs and using a grinder, when some A hole decide to activate an air horn at the other end of the building. I jumped and hit my head on the top of the pocket, and it scared the hell out of me! This kind of oblivian is akint to deep meditation, which should be reserved for sitting at home listening to Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd, not wandering aimlessly in the midst of all the dangers in an outdoor environment.

Being a senior citizen, I do not understand why people are so hung up on using cell phones and text messaging when driving or walking, do they need to talk/communicate constantly regardless of there physical situation, maybe I am just to old I am not comfortable about talking on a cell phone and driving, what about one's attention span to traffic conditions and watching out for other people who are multitasking, driving and talking on cell phones/text messaging, and their attention spans in operating their vehicle, just some of my thoughts.

A friend of ours is a cop with CXS PD here in Tampa. She missed this one while stating you can't fix stupid. Maybe a Darwin Award nominee? These are the folks that if a major disaster or attack happens are usually the first casualties afterwards. No concept of Situational Awareness or anything  resembling reality outside of their virtual little world. It is an addiction and people do go through withdrawals when seperated from their gadgets for too long of a period. A lot of young people today do not even have the social skills to hold a face to face serious logical conversation with another live being. I see it quite often. Technology is great, but us as a species are becoming disconnected not only with each other on a individual and pesonal level, but with reality in general. The singularity is fast coming when technology will over take the human ability to control it.

WE ARE THE BORG. YOU WILL BE ASSIMILATED. YOUR TECHNOLOGICAL AND BIOLOGICAL DISTINCTIVENESS WILL BE ADAPTED TO SERVE US. RESISTANCE IS FUTILE.

Maybe if they had an app that would alert them if there was a train in front of them...

What are they supposed to do (meaning the manufacturers). Both Android and IOS offer voice recognition, where you could theoretically 'talk' to text, but it still would mean the person is not paying attention (as a side note, there are studies out there that hands free cell phones cause distraction as well when driving, some states are thinking of banning cell phone use at all, if some havent already, when driving). Even if we had a heads up display or for example google glass, where we see the text in front of our eyes, it still would be a distraction.

I agree with others, people quite frankly are so caught up in themselves, with text and with cell phones, that the blame lies purely on themselves. I see people in NYC yakking on cell phones or texting walking across an intersection, and it is amazing they haven't been taken out of the gene pool yet.

Really people!! its that mean old train in my way. the railroad should know how important i think i am and should stop everything just for me.  same with cars and other people, just get out of my way. and if you think i'm stupid you are wrong i'm the most brilliant person i know.

what i find amazing is the dumber they are the more things they think they can accomplish while on their cell phone! i have had several ex employees that had that idea.
