York Area Train Ride

Tried to chase the train last Fall but went the wrong way (West).  Now I know it goes North (and South).

Took the afternoon ride last August.  It stopped at Hanover Junction.  The station there has been renovated and turned into a museum.  Made for a nice ride.

My Wife and I made the short trip to the junction in October.  Very enjoyable ride in one of the open air cars. Nice staff and informed crew.

that would be a great side trip for York week, seems they only run on weekends, it would be nice if they scheduled the Wednesday, Thursday or Friday of York week and advertised it with the TCA. I know our whole contingent from NJHR would go. I just emailed them with York meet attendance figures, I hope this will sway them.

JohnS, I agree with you.  I was hoping to ride but saw they are only running on the weekend and that is some sort of "Bunny" run for Easter.  To me, the perfect day would be on Wednesday as many of us are in town getting ready for the Thursday opening.  Good luck with them.

Still looks like you have to wait til Saturday April 26 to catch this train, unless you are in town the week before.

The station at New Freedom is about 6 miles west of Exit 4 on I-83 south of York.

Follow Route 851 west through Shrewsbury and Railroad (great place for a photo).

In New Freedom, the street ends at a "T" intersection. Turn left. The station/gift shop is ahead on the right. Turn right and go past the station to the parking lot.

President Abraham Lincoln rode on the Northern Central to Hanover Junction, where he changed trains on his way to deliver his Gettysburg Address during the dedication of the National Cemetery there.

No. 17 rolled out of the [David] Kloke Locomotive Works, Elgin, IL, in May, 2013! The Reader Railroad in Arkansas built a matching wooden combine and a coach this past summer.
